I'm assuming they are all safely indoors and mum is not being allowed out? As she will very quickly fall pregnant again.

As soon as kittens are weaned, get her booked in for her spay. As Gill said, having boy and girl kittens together can be a bit of a nightmare, have to have eyes like a hawk! Vet may neuter a boy at 5 months, particularly if they know he's living with an as yet unspayed female.

Vaccinations start at 10 weeks and they go in for their second course about 2 weeks later. You will need to flea and worm them too, get stuff for kittens from your vet.

The best way to socialise wary kittens is to get them into a home and let them adjust to the hustle and bustle of a household (or not in my case, I live alone!). Get down to their level and chat to them gently. If they are food motivated try tempting them closer with tasty morsels. Get the toys out and interact with them (some fabulous toys in the Purrs shop).

Lastly, good luck! Finding homes is not easy at the moment, make sure to check out any potential homes thoroughly. Alert the vet to the ones needing rehomed as they may have the odd person asking if they know of any kittens needing rehomed.

 :welcome: to purrs  ;D

It isnt really in the wrong place but there are others it can go in but we will sort that later.

I think you need to go to rescue and rehoming section on here and adverize the kittens that need homes in the need homes section.

A photo would help.

Well done for taking on the mother and kittens. many vets will not neauter before 6 months which can be a problems if there are male and female kittens! So this needs to be watched.

I take it you drive?

You need to register at a good vet who hopefully is small animals only and has 24/7 cover if possible and then take your lot in for a check up at some point, ask them at what age they neuter cos 4 months is best.

It needs to be a vet you trust and can talk to and if possible get recommendations.

Once the kittens are about 4 months old you need to get mum and kittens insured if possible........AXA still gives the best quotes.

You also need to get them all vacinated and dont know how young that can be done with kittens.

I am sure that I have missed something but someone will come along and fill in any gaps.

Loads of happy years with your new furry gang  ;D

Oh yes and what area you are in will need to go in the post for rehoming the other kittens.

Stray cat & 4 kittens - advice please :)

Hello
This is my 1st post so i apologise if I've put this in the wrong place....... I'm really hoping i can get some much needed advice / guidance :)
A couple of weeks ago hubby & i came back from holiday to find a stray cat in our garden with 4 kittens. Since we discovered them we've been feeding them & trying to get to know them a bit better. Sienna (mummy) is gorgeous & now lets us cuddle her, however the kittens won't come near us. We been able to stroke them a couple of time when they've been eating & don't appear to realise they are being stroked.
Anyway, as we're currently pet-less we've decided that we can offer a home to mummy & 2 kittens - we would love to keep all 5 but it's just not possible. I've had a couple of friends offer to take the other 2 kittens but then when i try to get them to commit they begin to make excuses etc so basically i haven't found a home yet. I've tried Cats Protection but they are full, RSPCA don't class them as 'in need' & Battersea (Old Windsor) haven't got room. I contacted local vets but they just gave me info for the places I've already tried.
We estimate that the kittens are 7 - 9 weeks old now, they are eating cat food but also still suckle.
Obviously we want to get our 3 neutered, vaccinated, wormed etc
My dilemmas are as follows:
1. How do i go about finding a new home for the 2 kittens we can't keep? Any suggestions would be great.
2. How do we go about getting mummy & kittens to the vets for check up, neutering etc? I've ordered a top loading cat basket but it hasn't arrived yet.
We are in Slough. Any advice would be very gratefully received  ;D
