 :'( poor kitties, RIP
Makes me realise how lucky I am that Fred and Ginger survived it (they came in with it from a feral colony, sadly all siblings and mum died)

Feline infectious enteritis, feline distemper, feline parvovirus , Feline panleuopenia all the same

The normal basic vaccination covers cat flu and enteritis e.g. Nobivac Tricat, Fevaxyn ICHP, Quantum Cat CVRP and Purevax RCP.
It can be spead via direct and indirect contact as well as by fleas!!!!! ;)  and can persist for months need parvocidal disinfectant to destroy it.

If I remember correctly  dogs were vaccinated with FIE vaccine  when Parvo in dogs first came on the scene before there was a vaccine made specifically for dogs. I remember parvo in dogs when it first came on the scene it hit so fast, with terrible results. :'(
I hope they get it under control and really clean everything down well before anymore cats come in.

Thanks Moira I think the basic flu jab is also for enteritus and then you can have leukemia added in as well.

Parvo's a right little butter - its what we think I had here last year with squirt and co. Parvo is on the increase with all vets crying out for people to get their animals vac'ed. There have been many dog deaths in Coventry due to this.
I'm not sure if it transfers across species but I do think it can jump (or perhaps did historically).... just going to check.
It can certainly lie dormant for ages hence my worry for having Hazel and co. here.

Gill: Yes there is a vaccine. Feline Parvo is also known as Feline Infectious Enteritis. Not sure if it is covered by the normal vacine cats get or a seperate vaccine. This is the info on it from Glasgow Univ. Vet school web site:

http://www.gla.ac.uk/faculties/vet/cad/informationforowners/felineparvovirus/

Of course, strays taken in by rescues or other cats not vaccinated may come to the rescue carrying it already. Shows the importance of careful quarentine practise for new animals.
