Its a recent thing as it was mentioned in the meeting we had with our local shelter this week.
It is a shame in that the shelter will now have to take animals to the vets to pts when before now they could have pts'd a sick/dying cat themselves, but I guess it will prevent the well publicised 'mishaps' that have happened in the past.

found this, though read between the lines as to why the decision was made......

Hmm right -  so i'm presuming that they have to take the animals to the vets then?

When did that come into force then - I hadn;t heard that they couldn't PTS themselves any more - is there any info on this online?

The RSPCA can no longer pts animals themselves (They can still shoot them but not by injection).
I don't know how much difference this will make to that aspect of the job.

Felledge Animal Shelter - any experiences?
« Reply #1 on: March 20, 2011, 18:38:30 PM »
Hello all!

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of Felledge Animal RSPCA shelter? There's a job going which i'd like to apply for as a care assistant, but i'm new to the area (Durham) and just wondering if anyone has any experiences with them? I have to admit that I am concerned about working for the RSPCA as I have had some rather negative encounters with them in the past. Part of the job would be assisting with putting to sleep and disposing of animals - this I could do if I knew that the animals were sick etc. but i'm worried about the PTS policies of the RSPCA and I can't really find any details of this on the website.

Any help would be really appreciated!
