A more scientific test would involve rustling an unopened packet of dreamies out of sight  :rofl: just don't open it coz if he really is deaf his other senses will be heightened and he will probably smell them a mile off!

If he is deaf please keep him in or get your garden cat proofed.

My friend's cat who is now 12 was deaf wehn she got him from a cat rescue 10 years ago.  Molly reacted to banging noises as she could feel the vibration or if she saw you shouting her.  However she recently got her hearing back after having her thyroids removed  :Crazy:  None of us could believe it.

When I was helping out at a vets a vet said a cat was deaf as they did similar tests but the vet soon pronounced him as able to hear when I rustled a bag in an adjoining room as the cat spun round and started mewing so the vet came through and asked me what I did so told him.  The vet went back in the room turned the cat so its bottom was facing me and told me to do it again and the cat again spun around, some cats just ignore certain sounds lol

Hi dawn they banged stuff behind his ears and shouted but he didnt even flinch, and they said his ears didnt move, but he did have bad mites in his ears when i got him so mabe that what caused it?

Agree with this, mind you I have a cat who convinced the vet he was deaf about 5 years ago and at 17 plus he is not but worked a great con job!

So I would watch him very carefully cos he just may not be deaf but does need protecting him from himself.  :hug: :hug:

hi gill thanks i dont think he is deaf as when we make certain sounds he will look at us :)

Is there any chance you can build a secure outside run or cat proof your garden? There are quite a few on Purrs who have done this and would be able to advise on the cheapest and most effective methods.

hi all i took waffle to the vets today to be neutered unfortunately they confirmed that he is deaf, my question is when he is over his op do i let him outside or is it to dangerous as he wont be able to hear the cars?
