Yes he is and was hoping he would be Ok this year.

He is still shouting, staring and I will get the stronghold from the vet tomorrow and hope that it will then be onwards and upwards.

I hope it is the flea and then he will quiet down and sleep for longer

Just seen this Gill and was thinking he is always ill around Valentine's day  :Luv2:

Well, all that worry for a ruddy flea.  :evillaugh: ;)  The little git must've been biting into Franta really badly fro him to act like that.

Give him a big big hug from me and Bonnie. A little one for yourself too  :evillaugh:

When I destress Liz I will laugh too and Gareth the vet was pleased that it was something so simple too and said I should be and I will be once I have the stronghold on him and he seems to be back to normal.

He is better than he was and is eating better and has slept.

As a result of this thread, I've checked and realised last worming for all except newbie Groucho was 31 May last year  :-[

Now understand why vet asked the other week if they'd been wormed recently.  "Yes of course says I" all indignant like  :innocent:

Had to laugh sorry Gill but can imagine that you were relieved to find it was something so simple and not anything to worry about

Thats why we do the Programme injection every 6 months no flea issues as they become sterile and die we do of course Profender the Bad feral boys as we like skin attached

Thanks Gill -thats just made me paranoid about doing all mine
I usually do them less regularly in Winter , but they have been in the garden the last few days and the weather has been sunnyish .

So, Valentines day present for them all was..... every one had flea stuff put on
I use Advantage from vet.

Glad that was all it was for Franta  and  nothing else wrong.

Thanks  ;D

I am getting some new tomorrow but will need one so will use one old one on Ducha I think .

I am sure there must be more than one but we couldnt see any but the evidence! Think the pair of blighters rush around :scared:

He is fast asleep on the cat tree and has been for about an hour so that is am improvement and he hasnt had any stronghold yet! Must be the effect of the steroid and was told that should also kick start his appetite too.

Thank you FF, thats very kind

I know some vets give the out of date flea products to local rescues to use as they are unable to sell it so would give the stronghold a go.

So glad it's something this simple Gill   Just think .... one little flea is doing all that damage.  Are you sure there aren't two?  ;)

I noticed Dinah scratching a wee bit this am and turned a blind eye thinking it's too early for fleas but of course it never is.  I have emailed myself a waggly finger.  Hopefully I've got enough Frontline in and it's in date.

I'm getting some worming pills for them too when I take Fred to vet for his blood tests next Monday.

As regards the out of date stronghold, I suspect that, whilst it may do no harm, it may not be as effective as usual?

Don't feel embarrassed Gill, it's not difficult to miss a flea or two as they have evolved to hide. Franta is 'special' and is lucky to live with someone so responsive to his changes in behaviour.

Vet  said to take him straight there and we are now back.

Its good news, embarrassing but good  :-[

I have groomed him and looked at his fur since all this started and once the vet got to the place where a slave dare not go...........looked like flea dirt, it tested positive! We couldnt find the flea and he has no signs anywhere else but putting his behaviour together with that, the answer is he has a flea!   :-[ :-[ :-[

His temp was normal, no lumps or bumps, he looks good so thats the diagnosis and hopefully in a couple of days he will be back to normal  :-[ :-[ :-[

He has had a steroid injection to calm his skin down which will wear off in 3 days, he will strongholded tomorrow along with the other cats although none of them ae showing any signs.

The annoying thing is I have found a 6 pack of stronghold with use by date of nov 10...............do you think that they will be Ok to use?

I think even just a call to the vet may be worth while and just explain his behaviour and see what they say.

When Ollie has a seizure he thumps his back legs

I feel your worry. Its not nice

Yes that staring into space or at a wall and yes I would not be surprised if its his brain, could be another abcess is forming. I have never seen him fall off anything before.

I am also worried about his left back leg as he keeps beating the foot on things, dont knoe if he hurt it when he fell.

Wonder if Marbocyl would help.

Am very close to ringing the vets now but he has suddenly gone queit after a cuddle, spoke to soon!

Gill , Ollie falls over sometimes and there has been a few times he has fallen off the cat tree or the book case or the kitchen units. I think its something to do with the brain.

Ollie fell of the kitchen worktop last week and landed on his side, he gave himself a real fright and took him a while to get over the shock,

I am certain its due to something going on in his brain. He goes through stages he is ok and then stages of confusion and falling, staring into space. Sue is convinces he hallocinates (bad spelling) She has seen the dazed and confused look in him herself

  to you and Franta and hope all will be ok.

Would the lovely vet maybe give you a telephone consultation? If the strangeness is all behavioural then really there isn't much for the vet to examine IYSWIM.

He slept downstairs but upstairs I have had no sleeep cos skin itching so bad grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This morning he is shouty and doesnt seem to be able to get comfortable and his fur or maybe skin seems to be driving him crazy at times.

I dont think its dementia cos he is trying to tell me something, trouble is I just dont know what it is. His meow is  different each time and he responds with a different one if I say no or Napoleon.

Keeping a watching brief on him and if this continues he will have to go and see the vet.

Hope that it's not the start of his illness again, his behaviour does seem to change beforehand.  All I can suggest is just be mindful but try not to show your overconcern or he may pick up on that, also give the vet a call if unsure.  Hope he settles down

I have tried grooming him but not much comes out and then turn my back and there are clumps of fur out!

I dont want to take him to the vet unless absolutely necessary cos a 50 mile drive is not what he needs cos he will get very very stressed, if it becomes apparent that he needs to go, of course I will take him.

He has just eaten and more of the right food rather than just felix jelly, was cute cos him and his bro ate together............I do wonder how much od Ducha being in a cage is upsetting him.................I so wish he could talk.

He is on the bed snoozing and quiet which is great and such a relief to me right now.

I will think on the blinds  cos use them to try and stop cold getting in and he seems to be attracted to anywhere that he cant move around in properly and then tries to do just that.

Thanks all

I am feeling a little less stressed at the moment.

Hi Gill all I can advise is if you are at all worried speak or get him to the vets in the morning even if they say there is nothing wrong it is better to be safe than sorry.  I normally do the rule if I am at all concerned then take the animal to the vets and that has normally seen me ok with mine even though sometimes it has not what I have wanted to hear from them.

Hope Franta is better soon

Gill hope you are both calm

With regards to the moulting can you give him extra grooming so that there is less hair to clean and that might make him feel better

Me thinks the blinds need to be open so that is one hazard less for you both to worry about

other than that sending calm vibes from our home to yours

Franta is terrifying me
« Reply #1 on: February 13, 2011, 21:10:54 PM »
I go up and down with Franta  but today he has really really scared me.

He is moulting very badly and its like its driving him crazy.

He is shouting much of the time and he goes all wild eyed and justs gazes at nothing but is darting his eyes around and mreowws like a crazy cat.

He is climbing every where and has fallen off the cat tree but didnt see what caused it, just him coming down as he turned in the air to land on hos paws, still not sure if he hurt himself and am watching his back legs.

He loves being on the window sill behind the curtains but is getting himself all tangled up in the blinds but he is just roving around getting himself into trouble every where.
Climbs on the back of the sofa and starts to slip and am having to keep rescuing him from places.

He also has probs with sounds which has been going on for a while and twitches when he hears even tiny noises. He is lying quietly for now on top of cat tree and had sound on tv nearly off but have just turned it up so I can hear it and he is now starting to move around again.

I am sure he is not sleeping well and he is not eating normally either but have put that down to possible fur balls from his moulting.

My heart is in my mouth cos I dont feel he is very safe where ever he is and a cage would be the safest place for him but that would not work at all.

It could be his head is playing him up again and this is just the forrunner to a seizure.................just no clue
