Unfortunately my vets aren't allowed to keep cats out of office hours or over a weekend, as there is no one in the building to monitor them or feed them - overnight poorly cats have to be transferred, and if you take a cat on a Sat that needs more treatment, you have to go to the emergency vet.
Please spay your cat

My vet is decent, but if they have someone ask for a healthy cat to be pts and they can't find a rescue willing to help, they have no option

I know our vets are pretty good at rehoming themsleves and will also phone us. The FIV cat I posted about a while ago had been with them for 10 days before they contacted us - luckily the vets found a home themselves.

I remember a couple of years ago when a woman phoned saying she was going into sheltered accommodation. She didn't think anyone could take care of her cat as well as her so took it to the vet next door to me. They refused to PTS a healthy cat. As it turned out, a neighbour adopted it  :)

she told the woman that no vet would PTS healthy cats.

Sorry Mark but that is NOT true

I'm there are vets that will but decent ones wouldn't.

I spoke to someone at the other branch. She said this is an ongoing thing. They had been providing the old man with food and had neutered the cats. She said before he bacame ill, he was very good and even rehomed the kittens.

Anyway, she wasn't aware about the woman threatening to kill the cats but the woman had told her that she was going to catch them and take them to a vet for PTS  >:( - she told the woman that no vet would PTS healthy cats. The woman is only feeding the cats to stop them from killing 'her' birds - otherwise she wouldn't bother.

Lynne at eh other branch is putting out feelers to see if anyone know of anywhere that can take 5 adult 'friendly' ferals.

She refuses to loan the woman a trap as she doesn't trust her and can't risk anything happening to them if the woman has them cornered.

So - Info has been passed to Julie, Sharon & Angela. - hopefully some networking can be done. I know Julie found a brilliant farm home for some ferals before - I wonder if they fancy taking another 5?  :shify:

you go mark!

I have stated to take details about the cats so that if anything 'nasty' turns up I have some info...

I'm getting pretty sick of the calls for kittens and 'present for' calls today.

Ironically, it's humans that are the vermin most times!
You can't change the world by rescuing one cat, but for that one cat you are changing its world.

She left a message saying that some cats had been abandoned on her farm. When I phoned back, she asked if I was from Canterbury or Hythe. I told her and asked if Hythe (her closest branch) were dealing with it. She said they are supposed to be phoning her back. I said if she had no luck, to phone us again.

She told me the story, that someone was living in a caravan on her land (with permission) but had cancer and had to 'go away' - then someone else took over the feeding. She said that they said they told her they were house sitting for 3 days, but that was 10 days ago and they haven't come back. She said she only fed birds normally but she had told Hythe that she was happy to feed them over the holiday but not beyond. She said that she always had cats during her married life but they were too much of a bind and she didn't want any now. I repeated that she should call us if the other branch can't help. This is when it got nasty.

She said if it isn't dealt with, she will deal with the cats 'the farm way' - without thinking, I said "If I find out anyone is killing cats, I will come down there and kill them!"  >:( - she said she needed to keep them away from 'her birds' and that she would speak to the people that normally do 'pest control' - I pointed out that cats aren't vermin and people risk being prosecuted so she shouldn't even think about it!

She backpedaled and said she was sure something would be sorted.

I'm sure she was making an idle threat but I can't and won't bite my tongue if someone is threatening cats  >:(
