If you click on the science bit, it says that the hairs have nothing to do with it. Basically, they dip their tongue  - as they draw their tongue up, it draws a column of liquid and they shut their mouth quickly, catching some of it.

I suppose the sandpapery little bits on the tongue help to keep the liquid on too, how clever of them  :Luv:
