 If they want to go outside badly enough they will learn to use the catflap! Can you set the catflap to be in-only or lock at a certain time? Can you cat-proof your garden or build a run so they are partially confined?
:'( My beautiful Noah rescued 13/02/09, adopted 11/10/09, taken 11/02/11 :'( You deserved so much more.

My goodness Ellen, you need to move house pronto!! Sounds like a nightmare! How do you cope with it all??? :-:

Thankfully it isn't like that where I live but it doesn't stop me worrying  :shy:

I think I would be happy if they stayed in all the time cuz then I'd know 100% they were safe. I would never forgive myself if I chose to let them out and something happened.

I can't believe the RSPCA and Police have done nothing to sort that situation out. It's just terrible.

I feel for you, I really do

Hayley if you are a bad Meowmy then I am an even worst one as I do not let my cats out at all.

The reason is I live in not too a good area and people in the past have found their cats faces blown up because people have been smoking drugs and blown it into the cats face.  A lot of neighbours have staffies or American pit bull/staffie crosses.  RSPCA and the police have been to the houses as they don't hide the fact that the dogs have American pit bull in them and the police and RSPCA have left them there.  We have joy riders racing down the street at all times of day and night and have had our front walls knocked down by drink drivers or joy riders.

I think you have to do what is best for your animals depending on where you live so that the animal is protected from bad and cruel things as much as possible.  I also live in an area where people think animals are disposable and will get rid if they do not fit in with their decorations.
It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all

I cant do it.

I just can't do it.

I'm terrified to let my babies outside for fear of them running off, getting lost, getting hurt etc etc....

The awful thing is, I know how much they like being outside, chasing the beasties! They still can't work out how to use the catflap which is stressing me out. So if I do let them out, I've got to hang around waiting for them to come in.

We have 3 doors - patio door at the rear, door at side of house with catflap and the front door which we rarely use.

If I take Peanut out and stand infront of the side door she will (eventually  :evillaugh:) push through the catflap, but I don't know whether she would know to go round the side of the house when I let them out through the patio door, because the last time I left them on their own for a bit, I found Peanut waiting outside the patio door to be let in!

It's doing my head in, cuz I can't lose the fear  :scared:

I think I was spoilt with Possum, because she only went out to go to the toilet and then came straight back in, she never wandered off, she loved to spend her time asleep on the bed  :Luv2:

I appreciate that if a cat has never used a catflap before, it will take time. I think the real issue is my fear of them getting hurt or taken.

I want to wrap my precious babies up in cotton wool  :shy:
