Cats and cystitis

Ambers a brindle tortie and she had cystisis on a regular basis, normally just before I was due to go away lol.
Oddly enough since last summer she has started drinking water and hasnt had an attack for about a year so fingers crossed shes finally realised that water helps

Both my cats are black and white. Sam is the 'waiter' type with white bib and paws.
I once read a book about feral cats which mentioned that most long-standing feral colonies are black and white, because this is the dominant colour in mix breed cats. I don't know if this relates to the tendency to cystitis.
My other cat, Polly, is more bi-coloured black and white; to my knowledge, she's never had problems with her urinary tract.

When I had Tom, I was told that there had been survey's done, and overweight, neutered black and white males were the highest risk category - sadly Tom fit all 3, his was stress related though, and stopped when he went into an only cat household.

Maybe the fact that black & white is a more common colour means he has seen more cases!

my vet said he'd done some research and thats what he found out that black and whites are more prone than others

Thanks for the link. Samantha used to get this lots when she was younger. Not so much as she's grown older. I used to be regularly hauling her to the vet for antibiotics!

I have 2 black and white cats and my female cat Abby has just got cystitus now my vet tells me that black and white cats are more prone to stress
