I'm a newbie!! Advice on Persians pls

Let's just say Monty came to live with me  ...... Can you recommend a food for him as he will only eat fishy varieties of Felix which makes his face all stinky.

Welcome  from another persian owner - of 9 in fact!

Where did Monty come from? was he a breeder's cat, or rescue? As Bungly mentioned you do need to make eye cleaning part of the everyday grooming session - a good product is Eye Envy (bit pricey, but it really works) http://www.toetufts.co.uk/cats.html . If you want to whip off some small knots withought tugging or pulling at his fur, this little battery trimmer is good to have to hand, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wahl-Trimmer-Battery-Rubberised-8066-717/dp/B000HC2MDE its really neat, just fits into your palm and isnt too noisy (run it first before trying it on Monty)

Persians can be intolerant of carbohydrates in food (listed as cereals, etc) so that rules out most dry, although a little as a treat doesnt hurt. Mine all get fed a variety of wet plus raw diet, and they've all done much better on that that when I used to feed all dry years ago. 

The snuffling, especially with the more peke-faced persians and flatter faced ones, is a shame, some breeders do breed more open faced persians, but a lot still seem to breed for the high noses.

Not really i am afraid -just have to be firm as if its not done ,it can cause lots of problems -my boys are very good , Sophie and Fifi not very keen and Pandors isn''t very impressed either . Its just a matter of perseverance .
Poor boy, fleas are not nice -i have been lucky with mine in regards to that and they are done every few weeks too .
Fifi was the only one that came grubby and had to be bathed the next day , Winston was knotted up so much he couldn''t move his legs much and had to be totally shaved . Bungly RIP came looking lovely and no knots or anything . Sophie also came looking fine as she had been in a foster home.
Pandora came looking beautiful -like a little powder puff  smelt gorgeous and had been fully groomed all over, clean eyes ,ears , flead , wormed, spayed and vaccinated .
Smartie just had one big knot that had to be teased out and a runny eye.

Monty was his given name so I'm not responsible for his fab name. My kids have decided that we should add a little to his name so as he's such a posh cat they think Mr Monty Tibbs sounds fab!!!. He arrived with visitors (the small brown boingy type!!) so has had intensive grooming frontlining and worming .....yuck!!. He is so incredibly chilled he let me groom him on his first night as I needed to remove the matts and some of his his unwanted guests. Any tips on eye cleaning as I tried this am and he wasn't too impressed.

Hi, and  to Purrs
I have 5 Persians and the last one I took in only 2 weeks ago is like that. She is adorable but sometimes you know where she is by her snorting, snuffly sound which is sometimes made worse if they get a bit stressed out .
It's the way they are bred unfortunately, tiny nostrils and it also affects the tear ducts.
You must clean eyes at least twice per day and check nostrils aren't bunged up too. The eyes can get very dirty and black and in your cats case being black it will be a bit harder to notice.
I use make up pads from Asda as I have been made aware that small fibres from cotton wool can get in their eyes. I bathe with cooled boiled water and also put a little drop of Optrex in it.
They also need grooming every day, especially round the back end, tummy and under legs at top.

Hi there
Monty arrived to live with me 3 days ago. He is a 7 year old(ish) black peke faced Persian house cat. I know very little about the breed and have researched as much as I can on line. He seems to be snuffly when eating and sleeping is this usual of this breed? ( have only ever had tabbies and torties before!!)  Can anyone give me any info on Monty's breed as he was an unexpected arrival!!!
