I think it rings true to me but it would have made more sense for him to get a taxi to Asda!  Esp as he'd come home in a taxi, but I suppose in the panic and heat of the moment I can understand jumping into the car for haste.   Even I have a few screwdrivers around and I'm useless at DIY mind.

Oh right just read the whole story and I know exactly where he was going to get screwdrivers (note to self ASDA in West Bridgford is 24 hours  ;) ).

Surely if the police went to his house and saw the cat trapped under the floor then they can see his story is true.

I don't think for one minute he was out burgling or mugging but the cat under the floorboards just seems so far-fetched. I'm assuming he must live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours, friends or family anywhere nearby - although having said that, it was 3am. I'm sure he could have improvised - but then again, he probably wasn't thinking straight  :-:

Where the hell do you buy screwdrivers at 3am ????

Even I have a screw driver, hammer and saw at home (I'm not allowed power tools! lol).  But even if I didn't I would have gone and knocked on my next door neighbours door and then the next and the next  before I got in the car and drove off to buy a screw driver!

I thought this a bit of a tall story -  although Covcat Abbie disappeared under the floor of her new home and stayed there quite happily for 10 days while her new owners (bless them) tore up the carpet in the hall and lived with a hole in the floor all that time.  Abbie came up each night for her food and returned to her lair.  So it could be true.  What a useless lump of male though - no screwdrivers in the house!

I have had a cat stuck under the floorboards. :P   When Jenny was young she climbed down a hole behind the toilet and ended up under the floorboards in the spare room.  It does make you panic hearing their little cries. :-[

screwdrivers are used for weapons and to steal cars. If he had a receipt just for screwdrivers then his story could be true.

So have I, but then we live in the real world and don't drive Porsches! But being useless is no excuse for driving over the limit, he could have called a taxi.

What puzzles me is why he was telling the police "It’s not for what you think, the screwdrivers aren’t for what you think" - what did he think they were... er... thinking?

You can't change the world by rescuing one cat, but for that one cat you are changing its world.
