So it looks like my last delivery had been festering in the back of the storeroom  :tired:

It has put me off stocking up. If I hadn't looked at the date, I could have ended up using out of date stuff.

I will just have to remember to use my most recent delivery bags up first

I had a delivery of Hills last month (direct from Hills) and the expiry is June 2011.

I have my previous order up in the attic bedroom. I checked and the expiry of the previous order is June 2011. So either Hill's or VetUK aren't rotating stock properly. They usually say vitamin levels are guaranteed until the expiry date so I assume they deplete over time.

Our local co-op doesn't either. In most supermarkets, you reach to the back of the shelf for something with the longest date. In the co-op, they just put the new stuff at the front  - it is so badly run. A few weeks ago, I went in the morning. While I was in the queue, I noticed a pack of sausages on a rack with cakes. I went back in the afternoon and it was still there  - I was thinking what if someone eventually got round to putting the sausages back in the fridge part - they could give someone food poisoning. I so wish we had a Waitrose here. It is the only sipermarket that does things properly.  :sigh:

I've always found that with Arden Grange and Orijen the shelf life is 1year. Ordered a 2.5kg Orijen adult cat in July and the date is Jul/11. With it taking 3 months to get through that little bag I wouldn't be happy being delivered food that only has 6 months left on it. I always get my pet dry food from Berriewoods.

lay me down, let me go, feeling heavy the ground is cold,
lay me down take it slow I'm ready to stumble, sing & then swing low

Dry Food Shelf life

I thought it usually had around 2 years shelf life?

It has been on offer at VetUK - the offer roughly works out 3 for 2 (the price drops from about £10 to about £7 a bag if you order 3+ bags) I have ordered 3 bags x 3 times in the last couple of months. I ordered this time as I was ordering renal food and thought I had better get some more in, just in case the offer ends at the end of the month. I just looked at the Use-by date and it is 12/2010 - I know it is well within date but I'm glad I didn't order any more as I have 6 bags to use up (although feeding random beggars & hedgies, it goes quite quickly  :evillaugh: ) Anyone else care to share use-by dates of food they have bought recently?  :shify:

I am wondering if it was on offer because of the short shelf-life?

I don't normally check but I had a bag of food from VetUK once that was past its sell-by (they refunded) so I always check dates on anything from them.
