Ela's right, you do learn how to inject quickly once you've been shown. Unless people have a MASSIVE phobia about needles, they really shouldn't be put off by a cat having diabetes. It's not so bad once you (and the cat!) get used to the situation!

Do you know anyone that might be suitable? A nurse? Or someone that’s taken a diabetic cat previously?

To be purrfectly honest anyone with an ounce of sense (that would normally rule me out) can very quickly learn what to do. I had never had a diabetic cat, we were told what to do once and it was no problem.

This is all I know. Downham market is Norfolk way, they are listed on CC.
He is a CP shelter care there.
-----------------------------------

We have an 8 year old male neutered tabby diabetic boy that we’ve had since the beginning of April that we’re having difficulty finding a home for. He is a dear boy, not really keen on other cats, but will tolerate them. He was nicely stabilised a little while ago, but is now having to have regular checks again. Do you know anyone that might be suitable? A nurse? Or someone that’s taken a diabetic cat previously?

The cat is called Felix  :Luv:  Gemini, the home I had lined up was a definite one but the lady wasn't used to injecting although her vet said he would teach her.  I had another email this morning off another lady who has 2 diabetic cats already and she also definitely wants him.  I felt awful letting the first lady down but had a chat with my friend and it's been decided it's in Felix's best interest to go to the 2nd lady, but if things goes pear shape, the offer of a home is still there ;D  Thanks guys for thinking of this little one........his prayers have certainly been answered, since coming in I've had 2 more emails offering this little guy a home

Hi Dawn,
That sounded promising - is the home with your friends friend definite?  We've put him on Top Cats as urgent, but if he's definitely sorted will take him off.
Good news if that's certain!!!

I have been reading the thread on this one and keeping my fingers crossed, such good news, really pleased that the puss will be in a good home very soon.

Incidentally, what is the cat called?  It has been referred to "he" "she" "puss" the Diabetic cat and the ginger cat but presumably this moggy does have a name?

I know if one of mine was diagnosed as having Diabetes, I could cope with it........I hate needles but if I had to inject, I'm sure I'll be able to but it's not a cat I would take on without seriously considering the implications first.  A few years ago before I started doing rescue, I did get a ginger cat from our local rescue, he was really poorly and I had him in the vets the first night as he went into a Diabetic coma.  I didn't know he had Diabetes and nor did the rescue, sadly he was too far gone and died  :'(  I was prepared at the time to learn how to inject but only because I had taken him on and if he had survived, I didn't want him going back to the rescue.

I didn't think I'd be able to give my cat injections; I cried when he was diagnosed with diabetes as I have a fear of medical needles! But he's so well behaved when he has his jab that it's actually just become part of the routine now.

Glad he/she has got a lovely new home. :)

I felt guilty as well Des but I know I couldn't inject cats and I have enough to do......it wouldn't have been fair on the cat.  Where he's going, the lady is used to oldies and she's just lost her last cat due to old age, I'm sure he'll be fine  :)

Glad to hear she's going somewhere safe. Have to admit, really wanted to take her on; mainly due to the fact that her having diabetes was such a lame reason for giving her up. My tom wakes me up for his jab every morning and it's quite tiring,(he picks the time!)but it's also really rewarding when he perks up after his insulin. :)

Getting a photo, won't be a problem.........I may try and get down there later to get one, if not tomorrow, it's not that I'm giving up, I haven't got time on my side.  I've left a message with 9lives as well........a foster home would be better than being put in a rescue.

Can we get a photo or something? With Dopey we got the vets permission and put details on the Cat Chat first homing page that gets viewed loads.  It worked for Dopey is it not worth a try with this one?

Mandy of CC has to get permission from the vets but otehr then that it was pretty straighforward.

Just dont want to give up on this one yet!

I'm willing to pay for the insulin if someone can foster. Can't promise to pay all vet bills as they might amount to lots of money and sadly I don't have that, but I guess if Sean's not too expensive I may be able to do more than the insulin.
I can also help with advice (via telephone and email) if someone's taking him/her in who hasn't had a diabetic cat before as it's one area I do have experience with...
