That happened with one of my ex-fosters, the vet put it down to teething, but when they were still red, they did some tests which showed her to have calici. Good luck with the new vet, my vet left the practice last year, and it was a nightmare as I didn't like the locum vet, I had to travel to the other branch for months till we got a better vet.
Please spay your cat

Thanks all  :shy:

Gillian you may have solved my vet problem  ;D , eastcott vets have a branch off Cricklade road (which I live off) I just never realised as I never head towards the moonrakers roundabout.  They don't do surgeries other than dentals there but once Luna's spayed hopefully they wont be needing surgery anymore!

I do have a old handset mobile phone but lost all my numbers when i moved my sim card over, my landline and internet are being installed on the 9th July hopefully!

My friend's offering to lend me his old iphone till I get the internet so may be able to pop back on here with that if it works :)

Helen -   :-[ - I will start driving lessons again soon just haven't had much time for them recently

Moving house has been once of the most stressful things i've done in recent years but it was lovely sitting out in the garden with the three cats this morning  :Luv2:  Luna wouldn't be sensible and stay in the shade so i turned the garden tap on and ran water all through her coat to keep her cool :evillaugh: Glad I did that as she was having a whale of a time chasing flies and midges  :Luv:

I've brought my laptop over to Michelle's parents to pay some bills online and thought i'd sneak on here :)

 Zenith sounds like your having a really hard time.

Definitely agree with Gill about trying to get some sort of phone in case of an emergency (with you or the furbabies)

I was worried about Soap being too small to be spayed (and in the end waited till she was 8 months as she is an indoor cat anyway) but she is just long and slim whereas my other two are chunky  :evillaugh:  Even when I took her in at 8 months I was still worried but the vet nurse reassured me and of course, she was absolutely fine.

I'm pretty lucky because my vets are good and I do trust their opnion and feel they don't rip you off (although their free's are slightly higher than others in the area I would rather pay that little extra for peace of mind)

I hope all goes well on Monday with Luna, maybe see how the vets handle the spay and make a decision after that.

Haggis sends brothery hugs to Luna for Monday ...

I totally sympathize with you over vets cos I have also lost my best vet and was so worried taking Ducha yesterday.

In London I used to have to take Kocka on the train and then a long walk up a hill and used to put her carrier ontop of a 4r wheeled shopping carrier which was fine till it came to the stairs at the station lol but I coped.

For emergencies I had to use a taxi which was hard cos too many drivers would not take cats! Mind you she didnt like going by taxi .......sigh

I think you need to have some kind of phone at home for emergencies , could you maybe get a cheapo pay as you go phone that you just use for emergencies?

I hope you manage to find a good vet that you trust

It really is frustrating when something you feel safe with (your vet) is taken away from you.  Didn't make it better seeing the product a lot cheaper either

I remember when I lived at hime and had to take Tibby to the vet - it was a 20 mins. bus ride and then a 10 minute walk through the town centre.

Here's some pics of Bonnie to cheer you up.

Darcy and Pepsi are currently registered at two different vets, Pepsi is at Vets4pets which you can only get to by car which is bad becuse I don't drive! So when she went in for her vaccs and microchipping my housemate drove us, thankfully she hasn't been back since then. I really like them but hope we don't have some sort of emergency as I'd probably have to get a taxi. Darcy is at one in the other direction, when he was being neutered and checked out I had to take him on the bus which is about 20 mins away, good thing is he was very calm and quiet in the carrier, didn't seem phased at all. I'd have him at the same as Pepsi but that was the only one tht was open on a Saturday afternoon when we found him, and the Cats Protection were dealing with him through them so I registered him there at the same time.

What about Escott vets? are they easier for you to get to? http://www.eastcottvets.co.uk/contact-us .

I would agree with the other vet,  its more likely the inflamed gums are due to teething, and lysine won't do anything for that - lysine is usually used to help cat flu symptoms and to prevent/make less severe, any flu recurrances - but as you say, it won't hurt.

I'm sure Luna will be fine on Monday

Sounds like lazy diagnosis to me, are you still taking lessons? What's the likelihood of you driving/having a car soon?

If it's high then I would try and find a vets you are happy with. You could always register with more than one so you could take them to the closer one in an emergency where time was of the essence.

Have a

Thanks  :shy:
The thing is the vet seems reputable http://www.companioncare.co.uk/swindon.html Maybe she is really concerned about kittens and their dental issues?  :shy:

  to you Zenith, I'm afraid I don't have any real advice other than go with your gut feeling if you're not sure about the vets then go elsewhere.

We don't drive either so I totally understand trying to get cats to and from the vets can be a nightmare, my branch surgery is a 10 minute walk away but the hospital is in the next town and that was a nightmare when Jess was in a couple of years ago now, we had to get taxis to and from.

Frustrated with vets
« Reply #1 on: July 02, 2010, 15:23:51 PM »
When I first got Mia and Nova the vets I chose had two branches within close proximity, well they've closed both down this last year and so i've struggled getting my cats there not driving and all.

I looked at changing vets but my feline specialist vet was with Drove so stayed with them, she's not available anymore  I took Luna to my first vets a while back but they wouldnt spay her as she was 'too young', Well then I signed up to a new vet surgery thats opened where my old vets used to be, but they have a blanket policy of not spaying till over 6 months.

Luna is six months and two weeks old now so went to the new vets last night for her pre-op check and the vet started telling me her gums were inflamed and thats a symptom of cat flu, She was at the other vets less than two weeks ago for a check with them and they said she had inflamed gums because she was getting her adult teeth in and it was nothing serious!

I mentioned this to my new vet who was painting a scary picture of dental work needed and she immediately said Luna was fine and she was clear to be spayed.  I did walk out of there paying £38 for a liquid lysine pump to see if that calms her gums down (Just seen the same thing on VetUk for less than £14  >:( http://www.vetuk.co.uk/digestive-supplements-dietary-organ-supplements-c-5_143/enisyloral-paste-for-cats-100ml-p-3457 )  Luckily they all love it - it looks like the hairball paste I used to feed them and it won't hurt Nova either.

Sorry my post is stupid and makes no sense.  I'm just frustrated that my good vets gone away and the new vet seems to be trying to scaremonger me and fleece me too!  Plus i'm worried as Luna's due to be spayed on Monday and she's my little baby - She weighed 3.18Kg last week but she's just long and thin.

I have no internet or phone at home and I sold my iphone so no outside communication right now except when I sneak on here at work,  Feeling quite low  :(
