I didn't realise that the ginger in the Sky set of pics was the resident stray - he's an absolute hunk, glad he seems to be feeling much better  :)

Ginge is a free cat once more! Vet very pleased with his eye and said no more treatment.  Got him home with the intention of keeping him in overnight just to get him reaquainted with the area and he was having none of it - definitely not going to be a house cat.  He was climbing the walls, the blinds, the furniture - anything to get out of the house so in the end we opened the door and let him go. Off he trotted like he had never been away and without a backward glance!

Fingers crossed for him - he might calm down a lot while there though, as his hormones will take a while to subside.
Please spay your cat

Poor Ginger is still on house/cage arrest.  He went to the vet last night and although his eye is a lot better it still needs treatment and as we can't guarantee we will be able to give him drops every day then he is back at the rescue.  He has cried all day/night at being inside - but he did go quiet when I came in so he must recognise me!

He's not happy being stuck inside all day so when he is given the all clear he will be back to his old life (minus his bits!) and we will carry on feeding him and looking out for him.

I may possibly have agreed to have him chipped though!

Well, I rang the lady who who is looking after him for an update - he yowled all day Saturday and Sunday, tried to destroy the cage and shredded a box that was put into the cage from him to shelter under.  He was promptly whisked to the vet on Monday and lost his bits and apparently has been subdued since then!     His eye is still quite bad but hopefully will have improved enough for him to get his freedom back later this week.

I have changed Pudding to rescue but see she not gone green. I hope that she will turn green at next post but if not please pm me pudding and I will have to try something else LOL

I have also taken some greenies out cos they have not posted for a long time and do not meet the qualifying conditions, one who is a fully paid up poster has also been taken off list as believe not currently involved in rescue and can be reinstated very quickly if she goes back to rescuing  ;D

Pudding should be a Greenie by the way. Not sure why she isn't.  :shy: She's one of us at Canterbury CP. Pudding and I have spent many a happy hour freezing our buns off watching cats sit next to traps, on top of traps, fall asleep behind traps, watch Sparrows eating sardines from inside traps while the cats we're trying to trap yawn and scratch their ears... for anyone who thinks cats don't smirk at people - you are wrong!

Sootyca, you're a born trapper!  :wow: Well done!  Please PM me your phone number because you are hired! The pay is  :censored: but we will give you as many sardines as you can eat. :sneaky:

Not sure he knows he is lucky!  Just settled him in a cat carrier for the night after letting him out (in the house obviously) for a couple of hours.   Showed no interest in toys or his surroundings and just wanted to sit and stare!  Probably the first time he has been inside at night in a long time.  Hopefully his rescue cage will be free tomorrow for him to spend a week there before coming back to his old life.

Thats brilliant news, but I am sure he will hate who ever treats his eye so its good that it wont be you.

If he is friendly now then he will be even more so soon  ;D

Well done you

Gosh, this trapping lark is easy!  :innocent:

Got the call about 4pm that he was around, abandoned work (thank goodness for flexi time!) and he was shut in the kitchen when I got home - praying he didn't spray smelly tom cat stuff everywhere!  Anyway, he was quite happy to follow Mr Mouse into the cat carrier and was whisked to the vet.  Calm as anything in the carrier (other than shredding the paper I had put in), good as gold with the vet (so more than likely is either still someone's pet or has been a pet in the past).  For a stray he is quite healthy, unchipped and a good weight (not surprised how many houses he seems to eat at!).  He does have a very large ulcer on his eye though which needs treating and asked if I would be able to keep him in whilst he is treated - not an option unfortunately.  We were almost left with having to hope he comes round every day and stayed friendly but the vet nurse kindly rang round to a couple of rescues and found one who will look after him whilst he is being treated (and presumably give him his eye drops!) as long as we take him back when he is fit again.  Not a problem with this as he will go back to his normal outdoor life (albeit without a bit of his anatomy!) and the rescue is happy for this to happen.  Shame really as he will probably make a nice pet when he gets over his nerves but it's not an option keeping him and everywhere seems full to bursting!

At the moment he is sat in the carrier in the shed waiting for the call to take him to his new temporary home.   ;D

'Course he didn't listen.  Hoping now for a 4-5.30pm arrival.    I think the vet should stay open late, just in case he turns up. :)

Told him to come back tomorrow morning before I go to work so I can take him to the vet then.  I'm still hopeful that he will follow the catnip mouse unsuspectingly into the cat carrier.

You must be feeling very lucky  :evillaugh:

Hope he listened!

No joy tonight - he came round after all the vets had closed for the night so there was no point trying to get him as I have nowhere to keep him overnight.  He looked very sorry for himself and his eye must be sore as it is only half open and was quite red.  Told him to come back tomorrow morning before I go to work so I can take him to the vet then.  I'm still hopeful that he will follow the catnip mouse unsuspectingly into the cat carrier.  If not I'm not sure who to contact for help!  Local CPL are a fairly new branch and didn't have the equipment to help out last time I spoke to them.  My other option is the lady I got Robbie from but she is a one-woman rescue who I don't really like to bother as she has so much going on with her own rescuing!

Just think visiting at 7.30am vibes please....or between 4pm and 5pm tomorrow! :)

Good luck, you may be better off going straight for the trapping option so as to not to arouse his suspicions when he is half rammed in to a cat carrier  :evillaugh:

Wish me luck - stray cat caught!
« Reply #1 on: April 13, 2010, 20:12:17 PM »
Our visiting neighbourhood stray is looking a bit raggy at the moment so the time has come to persuade him he wants to go in a cat carrier to the vets.......I'm not sure whether I'm deluding myself into thinking this is going to be easy!  See, he has a catnip mouse that he has slavered and drooled all over and loves it. I'm kind of hoping that he will follow the mouse into the cat carrier which will save me having to find someone who can help me catch and trap him.  Delusional?

The only problem is he doesn't have a set time of day that he comes round for his free food. The vet has said we can take him in whenever without an appointment (and they will keep him in whilst he has his bits removed if he is unchipped) so I need him to come round at about 5pm when I have finished work so I can get him in the carrier, down to the vet and treated.

What's the betting that this is not going to be as straightforward as I want it to be!
