Should explain, that Bob came to me with Antonina off our local Freecycle. (They'd been put on twice in less than a week....
) I was told, and foolishly believed, them both to be female. They co-existed together happily for over a year before I was cleaning them out one day and came across two little pink critters. One was sadly stillborn, the other a healthy, wriggly little man.
Sadly I had to separate them after this happened and I don't think either of them was as happy. They'd bonded a lot and although I considered getting Bob neutered I thought he'd be too old and most of the vets in our area won't neuter rodents.
He loved his wheel (until recently) and was a massive character in a tiny body.
Junior still lives with us, and is a happy healthy teeny russian. (Actually, he's fairly strapping for a dwarf hamster.)
