How awful, I'm so sorry for your loss, in under such sad circumstances too

I didn't know how toxic lillies are until I joined this forum a few years ago, I'm amazed its not more publicised in vet surgeries etc.

RIP Archie, safe and sound at the Bridge with all our other furkids :'(

I lost my amazing beautiful cream pointed british shorthaired 6 year old boy 10 days ago to lilly poisioning.

Where to start, I moved recently and had a large dining table in the front room, with a large vase of lillies, Archie loved water from a kitten, and while sleeping on the thursday night he got on the table knocked over the vase (I think for the water) and probably drank some and ate a small part of the leaf.  The flowers were tightly closed in bud.

When I got to work the follwing day a colleague informed me that lillies were deadly to cats, after being a cat owner for 15 years I really did not know this!

I left work immediately and took Archie to the vets, he was showing no signs of ill health, they kept him in and put him on a drip to try and flush his kidneys out (as lillies attack the kidneys) and if not treated within 4 hours can be fatal.

After a week of battling with this nasty toxin in his system, and also finding out that he had a grade 3 heart murmer probably connected to the kidney failure, it was decided that the battle to save my precious boy was lost.

He went downhill rapidly on Sunday and he took him to the emergency vet and he was peacfully put to rest.

I can not stress how dangerour lillies and daffodils are to cats, please please pass this onto everyone to know.

I miss him sooooooooo much he was such a very special little cat.

RIP Archie i miss you.

x
