Just been to an RSPCA branch, I was shocked!! The pens were very smelly, the whole site was like some kind of dumping ground for metal, junk... I was shocked!!

Trust me, kids are guaranteed to have toilet and behavioural problems. Most cats don't! I'd rather have a million cats than a child any day!

This girl sounds ideal. She's an indoor cat, and likes children with no toileting or behavioural problems.

It's been in the ofing for a while now, but I've recently taken voluntary redundancy so am going to be at home pretty much every day.

Also, a close friend and neighbour is pregnant, so any potential kitty would need to be fine with children and babies.

After doing my FIV research (thanks to Milly's Mum for the link) and having a chat with my hubby about it, I don't think it's something we can consider at this moment. I really hope he manages to find a home though!

We went to see Kitty, who's listed on the catchat website but she was a little 'nippy'. Very affectionate, but she did turn and bit/lash out a few times while I was in her pen. She has got a lovely temperament though, and will make a lovely addition to a family with a bigger house so she can have her own space. We also mey Patch, a lovely indoor female cat who was very shy but very very affectionate. The volunteers said she's never lashed out or tried to nip anyone but she has growled a few times, mainly as she was scared of the whole experience.

We're just waiting to hear back from another shelter about a few cats they have that might fit the bill then hopefully in the next couple of weeks we'll have our own little fluffball!

If anyone knows of any indoor cats that would fit the bill feel free to point me in their direction.

I will have to do more research on it. It's just we were looking for a cat who wouldn't need any extra special attention, but you're right, FIV cats are as deserving of a loving home as any other cat!

FIV doesn't necessarily mean a cat will have an especially short lifespan to my (admittedly limited) knowledge of the illness. And as you said, a lot of things that a cat can get ill from will potentially see their health deteriorate. (It's a sad fact for any living thing, really.) I do understand what you're saying, but don't let his FIV status put you off.

That's great to know! The only thing I'm not sure about is adopting a cat with FIV, just because he may suffer more toward the end of his life. I've had to deal with one cat getting weaker and weaker with cancer and, although no cat is guaranteed to be a picture of health and I completely wouldn't expect this, it's heartbreking to lose a cat early and see him suffer.

It's something I really need to think about.

Will do more research and see what comes of it. In the meantime he sounds amazing, have you managed to get any pictures of him?

Oh, and what was the nature of the dental work? Will he need further treatment down the line?

Hello.. I dont think we are that far. As a branch we have rehoemd far afiedl.. Essex is nothing compared to several cats we rehomed Loughborough way or even Norwich... Its up to you if you are prepared to travel..... Travelling a field to find a nice home.....
You will however need to be homechecked.. not sure if you have contacted your local Cp branch to see if they have anything to suit or can HC on behalf of another branch...

We recently rehomed a 14yr old to Surrey..so distance is not an issue for us..

Hello there!!
We havea  lovely FIV boy in care called Dougie.. I hope to get photos this week. He is around 5ish and is very very very affectionate, loves everyone and is even okay with other cats.. He is so nice natured would be fine with kids..  He is all blk and a real big boy, with a very vocal manner and really good manners.. He came into our carea  few wks ago after being left at the vets, he obv has had a owner in the past.. He has a few teeth issues now sorted and is currently with one of our indoor fosterers in Whitstable, Kent.

He as previously neutered, is vac and chipped.

It would be nice for him to have another feline companion but not essential..

We are Canterbury CP and will require a homecheck before rehoming, unless you have already been homechecked by another rescue or CP branch... If you are not sure about FIVs then pls do look at the information on this forum. Even the vet nurses fell in love with Dougie..
