I would just stick with plain chicken or fish for a few days as the vet suggested. Its possible she may be sensitive to the grains/cereals in her normal cat food, so by eliminating that from the diet for a few days, and then maybe adding the rice to her chicken/fish after a couple of days, you might be able to gauge if she does have a sensitivity.

They usually advise mixing those with white rice.

Just to update on this :
the vet has said she thinks it may just b a case of Bridie eating too fast but she has to have an xray just incase to make sure theres nothing else wrong ,
i had to sign a form of consent
the vet said there is a small risk with the sedation
which im not happy about, she said its like 1 in 10.000 will die
she said i have to feed her chicken and white fish for a few days and let her eat as much as she wants of that and just c if she keeps it down or not
as i may b the cat food that she has trouble digesting

yea the main problem is the food gulping ,the other problems have been going on a while

The open mouth could be her smelling something. Cats have a sense organ in the roof of their mouths which allows them to taste smells. So they open their mouth's slightly.

Samantha's the same with the litter tray. She sits in the tray, but hangs her bum over the side! I put the tray on lots of newspaper. She doesn't widdle on the floor though.

Are these both new behaviours for your cat? If not, it seems like your main problem is her food gulping. The only suggestion I can give for that - and it's maybe not that good - is to feed her so well that she doesn't feel like rushing her food cos she's not that hungry. I'm not suggesting you don't feed her enough, but maybe the little and often plan may be back-firing.

hippy: well yea she does a few things that r a bit strange
she keeps opening her mouth like a goldfish or like a person would when they were shocked , when i told the vet this before the vet checked her mouth to make sure everything was ok then said it was proberly behaviour problem
also shes never been able to go a pooh in the tray she always does it on the floor just by the tray ,and often misses the tray while weeing and it goes on the newspaper i have underneath the trays .

hi , no she isnt old she will only be 3 on the 29th

i was thinking about changing her food over to the hills sensitve stomache , all my cats get fed in the dinning room ive tried taking her to the kitchen and feeding her but she panics and even with me in there with her she sratches the door till u open it and then runss bk to the dinning room , if i didnt intervene and sit with her and keep stopping her after every 2 mouthfuls then she would b sick after every single meal

shes always asking for food every 20 mins or so as if shes starving ,i feel bad keep stopping her and making her take a break while eating coz i know id hate it if it was done to me , she looks thin to me but she weighs 4kg which i was told was average for an adult .

I have had a few that have eaten too quickly and thrown up, but they stopped once their meals were split into two and given half an hour apart. AFter a few weeks of that, they were able to eat normal meals again. Have you tried raising her food?

Does she do anything else strange, apart from repeatedly jumping on oh's knee? If not, she may be so pleased to see him that she's saying hello over and over - like a game of peep-poe.

Have you tried a different make of food? - Willow always used to throw up when she was on Iams but she hasn't thrown up (except once in a while) for 18 months or so since she stopped. Also, you coulod try mashing it wish a fork as it could be the big pieces that are making her throw up.

I had an old cat who did this type of thiing, she had about a 3 second memory , bit like me really.

she has wet food 4 times aday as her main meals ,and she has dry just to snack on ,the thing is thou shes always so hungry i feel awful having to supervise her and stop her half way throu her meal ,ive watched her and sometimes she dont even bother chewing the food she just wants to gobble it down as quick as she can ,maybe as i have 7 cats she might think she has to eat it quick incase one of the others steal it from her but we always supervise them to make sure they all eat there own and dont plate swap or steal etc

shes just brought her lunch up ,thing is she wont keep still when being sick so it goes everywhere all over my bed and all over hers
its a nighmare this cant continue .

Bridie has to go bk to the vets this weds , she has had a lot of problems the past year what with her uti she kept getting , also she has had a probelm with eating her food far too fast then bringing it up ,i was told by the vet too feed her little and often ,thing is we have been doing this now for months as its the only thing that works to stop her being sick , i mention it to the vet all the time and im told to carry on feeding little n often if its the only way she will keep food down ,

shes just so diferent to my other cat s
its a good job i dont work coz i have to feed her about every 20 mins to half an hour just to make sure she gets the right amount of food she should be having and to make sure her food is being kept down .
