Well, its been a year since you went to the bridge Normy, I hope you are happy and having plenty of food up there.

Just read this post I made, and what a foolish thing to say - I ended up losing 3 in 4 months, and having a years worth of health worries with Sam and all the concerns for Zi (although her diagnosis didn't come last year), so it certainly wasnt an easier year!!

Thank goodness for you and the others like you - who else would help these neediest ones? I'm sure that a good couple of months being cared for and comfortable is forever to a cat and sparing him suffering at the end is the most important thing

Thanks Jane - I wish he could have had longer, but when I looked at the side of his mouth where his dribbling was worse, I know that the timing was right, I had had to throw some food away since weekend which was unheard of with him in teh room, so it was obviously starting to really bother him, and I do think his weight loss would have only got worse, he looked even thinner at the vets last night than he did at home. With terminally ill cats though, it is alway about quality, not quantity. I was slightly shocked when the vet said she would put him as old as 20 looking at his face though, I didn't think he was as young as 12, but wouldnt put him as old as that!! Mind you, have never had a 20 year old to compare.

So sorry Desley, I have to say I am really upset too as you know how I feel about oldies so I've been following the thread with every hope. I do know though that you have loved and cared for him and would only do what's best for him.

I don't know how you and everyone involved in rescue is able to go through making the hard decision so many times ... but like you say ... being able to give a little one 2 months of love, cuddles and kindness must help to make it a bit "easier".

Thanks for the thoughts, it doesn't matter how many times you go through this, it doesn't get any easier, and in fact, might be a bit harder each time - I so wanted to ring up and cancel his visit, but I knew I couldnt do that to him, and I had a sneaky look at his mouth as he dribbled on one side and it wasn't nice,and we couldnt have done much about it, so I know it was the right thing, and I think I got the timing right as he had started to leave a bit of food. Norman passed peacefully to the Bridge this evening, he was a very lucky boy in that the people who found him wandering on teh street didn't ignore him, or listen to the other rescues advice (either put him outside with a collar on or pts), and he had just over 2 months here full of love, warmth and food (probably the most important in Norman's mind!!), and allowed to go while he still had some dignity. Walking into my kitchen wont be the same for quite a while, RIP little one.
