The wing may only be sore CC, are you able to hold the bird and stretch its wing out? Try and see if you can see anything! Good luck!

I wouldn't trust myself to do it properly  :-[ - it would end up flying in circles  :evillaugh:

A friend of my parents put a splint on a birds foot and the foot ended up in a slightly different position  it was ok though

I dont have a shed sadly and dont think it fair to be kept in a cat box  :shy:

He's a funny little thing, was sat under the chair perched on the wood underneath while I was in the kitchen, so I know he's ok cept for his wing  :( Will try to give him some catfood and hopefully he wont end up as catfood himself  :scared:

no, you'd need a shed or garage to keep it in while it healed

food isn't a problem though, as blackbirds thrive on tinned cat food, and mealworms can be bought easily these days

I was just thinking if you did successfully treat it yourself you would be less concerned about it happening again

I could do that trigger but then there would be the problem of food and where to keep it, I couldn't keep it in a catbox for however long especially with these cats, and my daughter is petrified of it  :evillaugh:

Thanks

You could also try these. If they are too far, I'm sure they will give you a number of somewhere nearer

Asked if there was any wildlife sanctuary's and the closest one was Cheshire  So thats a no go!

Try ringing your local Police, obviously it's not a police matter but they often have details of non official rescues - we have a bird lady near us who will take in any injured birds, hedgehogs etc. She's not an official rescue so the RSPCA wouldn't know about her to give out her details.

Same here - one of the VNs next door runs a small rescue from home and takes in Hedgies as well as other small wildlife.

Well bird is ok apart from its wing- it couldn't reach a good hight to fly  :( I let it out in the garden last night and Lyla discovered it under some old wood- I brought the cats in so they couldn't get to it.

Phoned the useless people  :tired: they said just to take it to the vets, I said they would only pts and he said thats all they would do  :( Asked if there was any wildlife sanctuary's and the closest one was Cheshire  So thats a no go!

Just going on have a look about the garden, oh has let the cats out this morn I hope its got away  :scared:

The advice I was given when I rescued an injured bird from a canal when I lived in London was to put it in a cardboard box with some food & water and have the lid closed. They said irt should be somewhere quiet. They told me that after 6 - 8 hours, I should check and it could either be dead from shock or revived. It's important that it is kept somewhere dark as it makes them go to sleep.

Thats a good idea Mark, I will ask the vets if they know of any  :) The last time I took a bird to the vets they let me bring it back home, I went to buy mealworms for it but when I got home it was dead in the carrier  :( Also had to have one pts as it had been paralised by a bite- thanks to Harry  :(

Harry has not been out for about 2 weeks and after seeing prey again he is raring to go  :shify: hopefully he will get himself out tonight and stop causing a ruckous in the house  :innocent:

Bird rescue is starting early this year and this time I can happily say it had nothing to do with my cats, or did it  :sneaky:

Poor thing.  :'( My vet said that if they have a bite on their body, they can survive but they PTS with broken wings. Maybe you could phone a sanctuary to take it as they will make a splint and nurse it back to health whereas a vet will just PTS  :(

At least this time of year there is no danger that it is a parent with starving babies.

Just opened the back door and to my horror found a blackbird? stuck in the catproofing  So went out to detangle it, which was pretty hard to do- head and leg through one hole and a wing through another! I held it while my OH tried to get it out whilst trying not to harm it  :scared: Bird managed to get away although it was in shock, had to go round the back of my garden to pick it up and now its safely in a catbox in my kitchen- I say safely but my cats are having a good time "guarding" it  :sneaky:

It looks like an adult, so Im going to leave it for a while and hopefully it will start flapping about. It can stand on both legs but one wing is held up away from the body, I think it may be broken and if it is birdy will be going to the vets tomorrow  :(

This is the first time this has happened and I really hope it never happens again, it could of been a lot messier  :( Just check your catproofing when you go out  :)
