yep his mouth smells so much better but he did have a scale and polish too so that's probably all the others needed. I'll be having a look on Monday when the vet checks his mouth to see how many he has left

So glad all went well, Sounds like our old feral girl Miss Cissy - she had all bar 2 removed and they were scaled and polished - she was so sweet till the vet removed her from the heat pad to take the drip off then our old gal reminded them of the rough 15 years she had

- she is our old gummy!

He's home and was very fussy when he could smell my hand

the vet said he's been a real angel since the pre-med, no bother at all and been stretched out in the dogs cage

toasty warm. he's had numerous teeth removed - the ones he needed removing especially the molars. She could see I was disappointed they've not all be taken but said the ones remaining were ok and if she were to remove them he would have been under another 45 mins and that was too risky so I know she will have done what was best for him.

Thanks Gill, he's had intravenous abs and pain killers and he's on Synulox for a week but to take him in on Monday for a check up, any probs to ring them but should be fine just to keep him on soft food for a few days on keep him inside where he's warm. He was on a drip and got 2 legs with shaven bits now bless but he's had a little to eat and been all round the house to check everythings still here.

Lets hope thay have done everything necesary and also given him pain meds and some for you to give him if necessary.

Did they put him on a drip?

Just been to hairdressers I rang the vets before I went in but there was no news and asked them to ring me when there was but instead they left voice message on hubby's phone (he was in barbers) and said Pepper's had his operation, he's had 1 or 2 teeth taken out, he may be in a bit of discomfort but he's fine and to arrange to collect him from our local vets so we're picking him up at 4.30. He had some missing anyway but I hope they've taken out more than 1 or 2

I know I mentioned it before but the last time, the vet planned on taking 2 out and leaving him with 2 - I said I wanted them all out but he said healthy teeth were more problematic to remove due to stronger roots. I went through all this this morning with my vet and she said she hoped to take the lot out but either way some would def be coming out but some may be too difficult to remove and was explaining to me the probs, though some explanations are a bit difficult to take in.

Clapton improved so much when he had his last 4 teeth out - I'm sure it will be the same for Pepper

Just make sure you have plenty of mushy things to begin with

Clapton took a shine to the Sheba foil trays in jelly after his last dental as they are very soft.

Well it was a juggling act feeding Byron and not Pep this morning. We took him for 10.20 and he was a bit stressed but the vet gave him a pre-med whilst I was there which I was glad of because being deaf and blind he worries when he's moved around and manhandled so that worries me

. Anyway she takes them through to the town to do the ops at 11 and brings them back at 4 but usually they ring around 2ish to let you know how they are. She said she's aiming to take the lot out but sometimes it's not possible for various reasons so fingers crossed.

Just an update, I took Pepper to the vets for bloods doing this morning and the vet rang this aft. and said they weren't too bad, his liver and kidneys were a bit high but only to be expected given age and meds he's on so she's prepared to do his dental, I've booked him in for Friday. I'm really pleased because sure he'll feel so much better for it, obviously bit worried too though.

I keep on about the dental Desley so I suppose she has good reasons as she has never hesitated removing my other older cats teeth, she removed Byrons at 22. Regarding the thyroid as I say I am baffled myself, I only know that for myself once the thyroid was stable then my dose was reduced gradually but if I remember rightly I was on the same dose until it started to get low and I saw the specialist after 3 months and it didn't get too low. Maybe once it gets to a certain point it doesn't fall that quickly and and maybe, as Clare says they suspect it would creep back up, they did with me and was going to put me on block and replace (which I think is both carbimazole and thyroxine) but they never did in the end and mine was ok. It certainly makes you wonder though if it has fallen so quickly in 1 month! I have to collect some Antirobe so will try and get to ask the vet about that

I still can't work out the reasoning in leaving it for 3 months though, just cos they aren't upsetting his tummy, there are still risks to organs by leaving dodgy teeth.

It would be interesting to see what your vet says about leaving him on such a high dose Jane, as my vet gave me a wishy washy answer when I asked about Sam - but to my mind, if they have come down so much on that dose, wont they keep reducing at that rate? I would have thought they would then need a maintenance dose rather than the same dose?
