It's not unusual for kittens to bolt their food. They've lived most of their lives, probably being breed and raised by people who have no idea about the volume of food a young kitten needs to thrive, and then having to compete for those slim pickings with litter mates. A kitten has to bolt food before a sibbling hoovers it first.  :tired: Animals are also at their most vulnerable when eating and will want it over with ASAP incase he has to deal with an attack from a preditor.  :( When he learns he doesn't have to go hungry anymore he'll calm down and eat normally.

Alice was like that when I first got her. She would hoover up anything I put in front of her -
she is a fussy madam now  :evillaugh:

Jack is  :Luv2:

He reminds me of a young Clapton with the black along his back and tail

I think Jack has foun himself a great new home! Fredcat was a stray , and he has always bolted his food , we came to the conclusion that as long as it idn't make him ill then to let him get on with it. ;D

Thanks everyone, just another question: When I feed him, it's as though it will be his last ever meal in the world!

I give him small amounts  a few times a day so that he doesn't gulp it all down at once otherwise he would! I feed Rosie and James in another room, otherwise he moves onto theirs.

When he does this, I wonder if perhaps he was a stray? How can I reassure him that he will always have food, but he needs to slow down a bit?

Depending on your area I doubt they would neuter him so early!  ;)

I would get him chipped by Xmas....If a search was going on now Im sure that would be enough time for him to be found!  :Luv2:

He is gorgeous :)  I would definitely start looking at neutering etc if his owners aren't found by Christmas.  Not the nicest of Christmas presents for him, mind..... :o

Well you wouldn't be able to neuter him by Christmas :shify:

I would give it a couple of weeks though definitely and then start the process, if an owner does show up you can always change the chip details and ask them for a contribution towards any costs if this is an issue for you.

He is gorgeous though, welcome home Jack!

Thanks everone, he is lovely, he just follows James around making a shrilling noise, and James loves to play with him, Rosie is keeping her distance most of the time, but she's a typical tortie, and keeps looking at me as if to say..........................another one?? You have got to be kidding me!

Decided to call him Jack - after my Sister who found him (Jackie), but an owner may still turn up yet, if nobody claims him, by Christmas then do you think it would be ok to assume him as ours and get him booked in for chipping, vacs and neutering?

When he went to the vets yesterday he was given a clean bill of health.

Ok, this is it so far:

'Holly' is not a girl but a boy (don't ask!! I took my sister's word for it) He is now 'Jack'! :-:

He went to the vets today, no microchip. Posters went up earlier today, I have received one call from a man saying if I didn't find the owner, he would have him as a xmas present for his Daughter - not likely mate!!!

Also put up a poster at the vets.

The car broke down around 70 miles from where my Sister lives, so I have a called a couple of the local vets and emailed a poster to them to put up in the surgery.

my friend found a kitten in her car engine once as well, after a thunderstorm - she did the rounds of vets and posters but never found the owner so pebbles went to live with her and is now 7 or 8 years old!

That's not fair, I only ever find oil and washer fluid in my engine  :P

Knowing what my Baldrick is like, it wouldn't surprise me if this is just one very nosy, adventurous kitten.  One batch of farm kittens I adopted/rehomed were fascinated by cars (Baldrick was one of that bunch) and would climg into the engine, onto the tops of the wheels, into the car etc.  She could have wandered a bit far from home and been looking for shelter?   Is it possible she climbed into the broken down car while it was waiting for towing - is it worth going back to wherever it broke down to ask around?

My Lyla went "missing" and about half an hour later while I was putting the bin out, she clambered out from under my car, her white fur black with soot and smog

Perhaps she has climbed in if its been shelter?
