Oh I'm so sorry Chrissie.  You and Charlie need to be on a desert island and just chill

Unfortunately the reality is you both have to wait and let meds and tests run your life.  I so wish I had a magic wand to sort you both out.  Try amd keep your chin up and hopefully the weather is picking up which puts us all in a better mood.

Oh dear Chrissie,im so sorry to hear Charlie has gone back 2 steps but this is probably down to your stress and anxiety, you are obviously worried about him and also your forthcoming hospital appointments but you really have to take control of your stress, the more stressed you become the more Charlie will pick up on it,i know it a vicious circle, and its easy for me to say but you have to try and stay calm even when hes having a skitz, i wish i could come up with an instant miracle for you both but all i can do is send some calming vibes for you and Charlie and hope that Sarah is right and that the increased meds help calm him and then you will not feel so anxious so harmony will once again reign and you will have the old Charlie back

Day 124 ten weeks on meds.  Charlie has been awful.  He has been anxious, wary of me, avoiding me like I have the plague, disinterested in anything around him, noise reactive and skitzy.  So Sarah and I discussed it and she has increased his meds from 0.4ml daily to 0.5ml daily for one week, .06ml daily for one week and then up to .07 ml.  She said I should notice fast improvement.  He had his first upped dose on Tues and he was remarkable and wonderful and lovely old Charlie on Wed.  Then on Thu morning when I got up he had reverted back to how he was before and has, so far, stayed that way although he has been slightly more sociable and curious today and has been chasing a butterfly whilst I have been tidying the garden.  It is very depressing and upsetting to see him so miserable and unhappy.  He will sit just hunched up with wide eyes and ears pricking constantly.

I took him to the vet on THu cos he looked a bit bloated and with him hunching up all the time I thought he might be uncomfortable or worse.  Our usual vet Irene was off so we had a locum lady called Kim.  She spent about five minutes really feeling round his tummy etc and pronounced him FAT.  SO he has to have r/d which I have to start to introduce into his food over the next month.  She has written down how much of each as he has to have some biccies in his puzzle feeder as part of his treatment plan.

So things not good really.  Of course my anxiety levels are through the roof and I know this is probably part of the reason he doesn't feel comfortable around me, my adrenaline is constantly pumping.  I have taken a beta blocker today which I haven't done for a long long time as they can make me dizzy but it is not good for either of us to constantly be surrounded by anxious feelings.

I have had my MRI scan on Monday and will have my nerve diagnostics next Wed.  Wish the news on the Charlie front was happier.  I despair we will ever get this sorted out sometimes.  I did ask Sarah if she was confident we could sort him and she said she is.

Hope everyone here is well.
Love xxxxx  thanks for caring about us

Day 110 (I think) 8 weeks and a bit on meds.  Well things have been really bad the last couple of weeks.  Charlie has reverted to his bad days almost without exception.  I am conscious that part of it is down to my anxiety levels and that try as I might not to let Charlie be aware of them, he is.  We have had several large skitzes, fur rippling, head shaking, over grooming, noise sensitivity, the lot all back again.  I felt really desperate and have asked Sarah (Behaviourist) to review his meds to see if the dose needs increasing slightly.

However, I have to say that today I am feeling much better and so is Charlie.  I have changed his feeds to every couple of hours, just a couple of mouthfuls and have had to cut down his biscuits as his weight gain is far too much.  No wonder though with so little exercise compared to previously.

We have a new game, hunt the bits of cooked chicken in the garden which we do every couple of evenings and he adores it.

HOpefully, next time, I will have better news to report but ever onwards and upwards.

Thank you all again for caring so much about us both, Charlie sends a hi five :)

Thank you all for your kind posts.  To answer the question about me!  I am not doing too good really.  I have been feeling lightheaded most of the time and have had two occasions when I felt really dizzy, clammy and my legs felt like lead.  Saw my gp today who said he thinks the "turns" were caused by nicotine rushes as they both occurred during my first cigarette of the day.  He is convinced the lightheadedness is caused by my constant anxiety.  I have seen the bone consultant who says there is def a weakness in my left arm/hand and a possible problem with my right shoulder (old crock am I).  Anyway he has referred me for an MRI scan on my neck and nerve diagnostics on my left arm.  I haver the MRI appointment for 18th May but not heard about the other one yet.

On a Charlie note he is doing just fine although he did have a little skitz earlier.  He has coped this week with four firemen and the police in the house!  Nothing sinister, the fire brigade are doing a campaign on safety in the home and fitted me two new smoke alarms and the police came to check the firebrigade had been.

Thanks again to you all for your caring concern and endless support:)

Day 93 5 and a half weeks on meds.

Charlie has been quite up and down but I am pleased to report he is having more good than bad days.  In a week he had three good days, two so so days and two very bad days.  He is quite calm at the moment and enjoying spending lots of time snoozing on his cat tree in the garden or chasing the hose sprinkler in the evenings.  He can have a short game of Da Bird/Mouse without it turning into a skitz at the moment.  He is more tolerant of cats around the area and has his affectionate moments.

Of course having written this down I have the dread of jinxing it all as this has happened so often.

I am pleased with his progress and hoping things can only get better.  He is having another cat tree built in the garden any day and it will have a platform joining it to his other one.  Also he is having shelf outside under the window.  his grasses are starting to grow back and I am leaving the grass longer.

He has had fun chasing bugs and is a lot less demanding on the food front

Thanks for listening and caring about us:)

You really do have my sympathy with your neck and shoulder problems - my OH is waiting for a diagnosis himself.  He had an accident at the end of July - fell off the back of a lorry ( yes - we laugh about it now, too) and at first we thought the main injury was a badly fractured right wrist and head injuries.  Its turned out to be rather more than just that - Drs and hospital are now talking nerve problems and ligament troubles .  He has no proper grip in his right hand, cant raise the arm properly above waist level and has a lot of neck pain.  His left arm is now causing problems as he has over used it ....

Still, as he says, we have our cats as a distraction  :Luv2:

Poor old Charlie and his Easter egg experience - he has some splendid adventures, doent he?

   to you and him  :)

I think Charlie has done great so far MM, a few setbacks are bound to happen and what the behaviourist says makes good sense to me.  I would just be yourself aside from training prog. whatever.   Hope you sort your painful problems out and get to what is causing it

It sounds like Charlie is making good progress overall.  It may seem like 2 steps forward and one step back (or even one step forward then two back at times!) but that is inevitable given the nature of his condition.  I really do think he is improving and that he is doing much better overall, despite the odd setback.  Sarah is right about you not worrying - not good for you or for Charlie   Try to relax (easier said than done I know) and accept that Charlie is doing great

Good luck with the hospital appts - I'm glad the bone specialist doesn't think it is anything sinister

Day 81 4 weeks and 4 days on meds.

It has not been a good week.  Charlie has been really off and miserable and has been very jumpy and nervous.  I have felt quite despondent and wondered if this is as good as it gets with him.  Anyway I am feeling much better as Sarah (behaviourist) phoned me for a chat this morning.  She thinks, from Charlie's diaries, that he is making good progress.  She said with hyperesthesia he is permanently at the top level of stress and the slightest thing can tip him over.  Anyway she feels he has made steps in the right direction as he is having some good days, is not skitzing every day and even when he does they are of short duration.

She said the meds are only just starting to take effect and it will be another four or so weeks before we can expect to see the full benefit.  She said I must not tiptoe round him and worry that things I do will set him off.  She pointed out that that is bad for me and I will feel stressed and anxious (tell me about it) which is not good for my health and will transmit to Charlie.

So I am actually feeling better about it now.  She said he will be up and down and it will take time.

I saw the bone specialist yesterday who says I def have something going on in my left arm (either from my neck or elbow).  He thinks it could either be a trapped nerve or something similar to carpal tunnel syndrome.  Also there is some problem in my right shoulder (what an old wreck I am becoming) so he is referring me to two different hospitals.  One to have diagnostics done on the nerves in my left arm and the other for a scan on my neck.  In the meantime I have to just take painkillers. He did say, however, that he doesn't think it is anything sinister.

Those of you who read "From the Cats Mouth" will have read about Charlie's escapade with the Easter egg box.  For those who haven't read it, he climbed on the dresser and poked his head in an Easter egg box and got it stuck.  He then danced backwards across the dresser and fell off still with the box attached.  The same day I accidently locked him in the garden in the dark!

Anyway thanks for reading and for all your support, much, much appreciated:)

Thanks,  my back and arms still hurt if I am on the computer.  I am seeing the bone consultant a week tomorrow though to be honest I don't think it will serve any purpose as it is def connected with computer use.  Think it is probably RSI although someone I know mentioned they got similar symptoms to mine (I have other things going on, I am an old crock!) and it related to her thyroid so am going to speak to my GP about this.

Day 72 three weeks and 2 days on meds.  Well I am happy to report that Charlie is doing great!  He has only had one tiny skitz (just a split second) when he discovered I had re-seeded a tiny patch of grass.  He promptly dug and peed in it!  He is far less reactive to sound, I would almost go so far as to say his reaction is normal.  His fur hardly ever ripples and he is much more chilled out.  We even managed a Da Bird game which was a little wild but he didn't go OTT tonight.  He is less crazy for food (still likes it though) and things don't seem to be bothering him so much.  He is also purring again! Fingers crossed for him that this continues.  Tomorrow is forecast sunny and 60 degrees F here in Manchester so I expect we will spend a fair bit of time in the garden.  Sophie is deterred!  Unfortunately the stray doesn't belong to the person we thought it did but haven't seen him around too much.  Things are looking good for my boy:)  Thanks for reading and please keep the pos vibes coming.
