They were told by whoever took him in that this was how they got him down....but as the law stands I would presume that it isn't classed as a deliberate act of cruelty because he was stuck up a tree....what we see as cruelty and how the law sees it are 2 completely different things  :tired:

Sure they told the vets how its jaw had been broken-thats how you know and it would be on the cats file at the vets  :hug:

So is it not a case for the rspca? It is animal abuse after all, and the vets could back it up.

The cat was poked with a pole to get it down  :censored:  The breed was a Ragdoll Liz....I've had a chat to them in there and told them to contact me if anything else comes in where funding is an issue.

I would say that it is a very sad situation and that not everyone will do the best thing when it comes to repariring the fur baby

Some folks think of them as disposable but to us they are irreplaceable

A tree surgeon will cost upwards of £150 to get a cat out of tree - We had the Harvey incident - 80 foot up a tree for 3 days in minus weather conditons - got down at 19.30pm on a Saturday night by an awfully nice tree surgeon!!!

Fire brigade will charge the owner to come out this again is in to 3 figures

Dawn what type of Pedigree cat perhaps get in touch with the breed specific societies so they can advise breeders if this lot want another "posh" cat!

Also rescues are full as we all know and costs are rising and they have waiting lists etc sometimes PTS is the kindest option even if we can't and won't agree with it

Firstly why the hell has he hit the cat that hard he's broke its jaw? Or did the cat fall?

Either way they are scum  >:( poor kitty  :(

I think there are a lot of decent vets around who will try but what can they do? We often get phone calls from the vets but lately, not able to help a lot of the time - If they refuse to PTS and the rescues are full, it leaves the cats in a vulnerable position and who knows what some people might do  :(. I think Dawn said in an earlier post, as terrible and sad as it is, a gentle PTS is better than a cat dumped miles from home or worse  :'(
We had a case last year where an old lady phoned and said she was moving into sheltered housing. She took her cat to the vet for PTS  and they said her cat was perfectly healthy and refused. She came to us. I asked why she didn't come to us first and she said she didn't think anyone would be able to take care of her cat the way she did - so in a weird way, she did love him. Anyway, there was a happy ending as this cat was one of those wanderers who was known in the local library & shops. The local undertakers son adopted him  :)

Our local RSPCA paid for a dental and castration for a cat we took on this year (my vet is also their vet) - she got them to agree on the basis we would take the cat afterwards, as they had no space for him.

It won't help this poor baby but is it correct that the RSPCA will contribute £50 towards the bill if someone else takes the cat on?
I remember a case last year where our local companion care had a similar situation where the cat had a fractured pelvis and the owners wouldn't pay the bill so asked for PTS - the vet called Sharon and she agreed to take the cat on. I'm sure there was talk of the RSPCA paying £50 towards the massive bill. Luckily the vet was understanding and Sharon said he just charged for the metalwork he had to buy in - it still ran into hundreds  :scared:

I don't think they really had chance to think about it properly and it was a new vet I think that had dealt with it....obviously it was too late afterwards but I know they were all gutted about it and the vet especially who had dealt with the cat.  He'd been x rayed and god knows what and it upset him the fact the cat had been through so much for the owners to have him pts anyway....if I'd have known, I could have sorted something but it was too late by this time  :'(  I have now told them if they ever get another in where the vet bill is a problem to let me know at least whilst I can still help.

The vets were all gutted as were the other staff....the worst of it is, I could possibly have sorted some funding out by pulling a few strings but I didn't hear about it until it was too late    :'(  :'(

Been in the vets today and a gorgeous pedigree cat had been stuck up a tree for 5 days, had an idiot poked it with a long pole to get it down which resulted in a broken jaw....would have been approx £200 vet bill to have it mended and although owners loaded, had the cat pts instead   :'(  :'(  They didn't want to call a tree surgeon as they would have been expensive  >:(  >:(  :censored:
