5 x 8mg doses Kate, my vet said they wont harm her as they are only dog travel sickness tabs!  ;)

We thought her sickness was down to her kidneys but her bloods came back all in the normal range! Another cat mystery methinks!

Edited to say.... Tabs dont come in 8mg they are indeed the 16mg ones and I was definitely halving every other day!  ;) :shy:

sorry, but was that 10 doses with Teddie or 5 doses (every other day)? What did you do after that for the nausea?  :thanks:

It comes in a packet of 4 so I think you're not supposed to use them continuously.

Teddie was on them for 10 days, had a look as we still have the bill and they were 16mg ones and definitely halved every other day!  :shy:

I was looking on a link and it says that Cerenia are also used as anti nausea in chemo patients (animals of course!)  :Luv:

they are only licensed for dogs to use for 5 days then they have to stop treatment for a bit before resuming.  How long did you use them continuously for please?

I just kept her on these at the dose you will be giving Max every other day...They seem really fast acting so I suppose no harm in trying them out for a few days then if he perks up you could stop! Like I said they are really fast acting so starting them again if you notice the nausea returning wont be a prob!  ;)

They are tiny tabs so they will be easily swallowed!  :)

thanks Mark. I have my trusty blue pill cutter. I can't put anything in their food, so it all goes down the hatch directly! The vet says he thinks 1/4 tablet every other day. I'm keen to use it just when Max is nauseous. What did your vet say Bazsmum?

If they are hard to cut accurately, Holland & Barrett sell a pill cutter & crusher in one for about £5.

:thanks:  I'm going to start it as soon as I get the all clear from the vet that it is ok with the diuretics. He's never used cerenia (or sub cuts or anything for CRF except fortekor) which means I have to find out a lot myself, which doesn't half add to the stress.

:thanks: The vet's nurse has ordered the 16mg ones so I can go and swap it and try a 1/4 when necessary. Max weighs about 4.7 so I am to start with the dose for a 4kg cat and can move up a bit.

Strike that! Gosh I feel awful now as I have just realised I must of had the 8mg ones as they were definitely only halved!

See how I trust my judgement!  :innocent:  At the end of the day whether halved or quartered its still 4mg!  :shy:

Every other day at 4mg Kate, My Teddie (18yr old) was throwing up quite regular and they managed to stop this and increase her appetite (obviously through the lessoning effect on nausea), no adverse side affects/reactions only positive ones from them....

I gave her them every other day no matter what!  ;) :Luv:

They are tiny little things when halved so hopefully no probs via taking them either!

Did you give them as and when necessary, or on a regular basis never mind how your cat was feeling?

And did anyone notice any side effects please?

Yes I have to sign an consent form too because it's only licenced for dogs so unless something has a cat use licence, we all have to sign that we won't sue the vet nowadays!

That would work out right Mark as Teddie was approx 4kg when she was on them but like I said that was every other day?  :shify:

Maybe my vets were just being extra catious as I did have to sign a concent form for them to be used!

Oh hang on! The ones I had for Teddie were 16mg so half of that = 8, so that would be 4 mg per day....can you not get hold of the 16mg ones Kate?

Cerenia: correct dose?
« Reply #1 on: August 07, 2009, 11:14:43 AM »
I'm starting a new thread to try to get the fastest possible reply. My vet doesn't know how to use Cerenia for nausea in cats, only in dogs. The tablet is a 24mg one I think. He thinks it would be a 1/4 tablet but does anyone have the information please?
Many thanks.
