I am so so sorry to hear about Billy - believe me I know the pain

With heavy hearts; and a tear in our eyes
after all these years; we must say goodbye
Please understand; we've done all we could
if there was anything we could do; you know we would

I'm sitting right here; gently rubbing your ears
while I talk to you softly; trying to hold back the tears
The memories you gave us; we'll never forget
especially the ones; of the day we all met

One last hug; and one last kiss
you have no idea; how much you'll be missed
To look into your eyes; this one last time
you tell me it's ok; you know it's your time

Dream of that special day and time
when we'll meet at the Bridge; and all will be fine
We'll run and play; side by side
with a soft warm feeling; deep down inside

Your memory will live on; in each one of us
you'll always be number 1; to all of us
So with heavy hearts; and tears in our eyes
just for now my friend Billy; we say goodbye.

Thanks everyone   The reason I had no choice was when they actually x rayed him, he had fractured his pelvis 3 times on one side and dislocated the other side...the pelvis is like a box and the side that had been fractured had also been pushed down with the force towards his back end which would have caused problems going to the toilet....on their own, the injuries would probably have been copeable with but altogether, it was too much.....the main problem being the dislocation...it had come away from his spine as well causing the neurological damage  :'(  :'(  :'(  When I went to see him, he stood up straight away and promptly felll over...he managed to get over to me and nestled his head under my arm and he was purring...I think he knew and he was telling me it was ok god love him  :'(  I had him sedated first and held him whilst Nicky did him and spent some time cuddling him  and then he was euthanised, he went so peacefully bless him but I really wish it hadn't needed to happen.  I've cried so many tears tonight and I was so stressed this morning, I had a run in with some gypsies and nearly got myself arrested...not a good day but at least now Billy is at peace and running round with my other furbabes...especially Dylan...he sent Billy to me I'm sure  :'(  :'(

RIP my gorgeous little man, xxxxx

I am so sorry to hear this, another one taken too soon. RIP little one. For what it is worth, I put Pebbles through an amputaton, and it was a nightmare for her when she had her awful tummy upset because she couldn't squat long enough so got it all over her - and she wasn't longhaired.
Please spay your cat

Thanks  Still no news on my little man and I've got to phone in a couple of hours.  I'm also worried stupid about my youngster, he found a lump behind his nipple a few weels ago and still hasn't been to the doctors.  He had an appointment this morning and then got called for Regimental Drill... :censored: .....the joys of having furbabes and being a parent  :tired:

Just wanted to send you lots of    sweetie, I know exactly how you're feeling right now, but know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you will know what you have to do.  Nobody knows Billy as well as you, and with the vets advice after tests, then hopefull you'll have a better idea of which path to take xxxxx

Thanks guys  The vet was hinting at having him pts...he asked me how much I loved him but he said he didn't mean it in a flippant way.  Basically he's saying with a disability added onto his already existing health problems, a decision has to be made as to whether it is fair putting him through it.  I've been going over it in my mind since leaving him at the vets and as you can imagine, I just keep thinking of his little face staring at me as I left him there wondering what the hell was going on  :'(  :'(  At this moment in time I'm not sure if I am strong enough to make a decision....Billy is extra special to me because he came into my life the day Dylan got killed and he helped ease my pain at losing him  :'(  I'm sat here crying as I'm writing this as I know in my heart the decision I have to make but I'm hoping by some sheer miracle he can be sorted.  Trevor has suggested some alternative tablets for his tummy and if this can be sorted, this may help him battle his way through it, this is dependant on the other tests tomorrow.....he is stressed at the moment so his tummy is a lot worse than normal but because he can't get himself up to go to the loo or by the time he does it's too late, he's just getting covered.  He's been losing weight for a while which is down to him not getting the nutriants from his food and he's tried different treatments to no avail and he's not the easiest cat to medicate.  Trevor wants to do a full assessment on him tomorrow including bloods, xrays and neurological tests...then he will give me his honest opinion and I will have to take it from there.

Thanks Mark    I will give you a bell in a couple of days

  Dawn what a dilemma these sorts of things are.  All I can say is discuss with the vet and ask the vet what they would do from what they know about Billy and what you tell them.  When we had the dilemma with Smokey's amputation we went for it because other than a bad leg he was generally ok but sadly he was old and other complications followed.  I think I would always go for the op if there is a chance of it working but that decision ultimately has to be yours and very hard I know.   Best of luck xx

In a dilemma and don't know what to do
« Reply #1 on: August 05, 2009, 19:51:11 PM »
Billy managed to get out and disappeared, I thought someone had pinched him but when I went looking for him for the umpteenth time at 5 in the morning, I heard him meow.  Got him into the kitchen and his back end went on him.....I thought he'd fractured his hip.  Anyway, the vet thinks it's neurological damage, he can sort of walk but then collapses but when walking, he's walking on his hock, this may lead to it wearing through the bone if left which would then result in his leg being amputated.  Other problems he's got are constant tummy problems (collitis) so he's not getting any goodness from his food...ie losing weight and also severe Gingivitus.  If he has to lose a leg, he is not going to be able to hold his weight on his other one because of the weight issue  :tired:  He's being accessed tomorrow but I have some serious thinking to do...ie is it fair to put him through all this, bearing in mind his other issues or what?  I'm going to make my decision tomorrow......after consulting with the vet but my heart is telling me one thing and my head is telling me another  :'(  :'(
