Thanks everyone.  I think we may just continue as we are for now.  Or at least put the flap on 'in only' when we go out so once he's in then he stays in until we're back.

My flap in London was open 24/7 when I was at work but Kocka didnt go very far, just a neighbours garden really.

Here mine is also open 24/7 but I am here most of the time and none of my cats are that young.

I think I would stick doing what you are with Samson  ;D

Cat flap is open 24/7 here too. Although at night time I close off the gate to the garden, so's they can still go outside in the cat safe areas but not roam out of the garden.

It's just that thing of not knowing what he's doing I guess.  If I'm here and he's outside then at least I know he's outside (and to keep an eye out for him catching me any more presents!).

I dont have a flap but would keep in while im out if i had one, same as i do now, i like to know where they are.  If hes happy with that then i see no problem.

No most of mine stay in if we are not here,  the cat flap is locked, I dont like them going in and out if we are not about,   I am a bit protective over them though,  probably too much because if we are here they are out all day and most of the time I have no idea where they are anyway x

Samson has been with us for 4 weeks now and has been going out into the back garden for almost 2 weeks (thanks to my Mum  :shify:).  Until now we've been keeping him indoors during the day while we're at work. Hubby lets him out for a bit before work and I let him out when I get home from work and then he's kept in overnight.

I was home all day Monday and even though the cat-flap was open he spent most of the day indoors although I'm sure this is because he likes company so was happy to be wherever I was rather than outside.

I'm wondering whether I should now leave the cat-flap open while we're out at work too?  What do you all do?
