I have put a large cardboard box out under the hedge, and also made a lean to against the garage wall with a sheet on top, when i came home from work there were 4 cats under it :evillaugh:

A 'tent' made out of a bedsheet would appeal to them and be shady

I'd be tempted to get something in that case then.

As Gillian says, most cats will do the sensible thing and find shade themselves but if there is nothing suitable there then go for it.

We don't get much direct sunlight on our patio and Samson has been flaking out under the table and chairs there or curling up under bushes where it's cooler.

well the problem is we only have under the hedges as shade and when the kids are out in the garden next door they refuse to go anywhere near it

I'm sure they'll appreciate any extra shade  :) but most cats a pretty sensible about keeping themselves cool, you know, finding the shady spots under shrubs and trees etc, thats what my longhairs are doing. Although my house is actually cooler because it doesnt get much direct sun, so the cats lay about stretched out on the floors where its even cooler and where they can catch any breeze.

salem is long haired and loves the outside but doesnt cope with the heat well and to be honest none of them are coping with the heat as good as they did last year so i thought maybe of getting a parasoul to put in the garden i can get free vouchers for homebase and argos so the payment isnt really a problem were taking all the usual precautions and i know there will be some people saying dont let them out till its cooler in the day but in the morning and most of the day its warmer in the house than outside we have 2 big fans going in a small living room what do you think should i get one to create more shade for them?
