I think it can be done very cheaply if you have a wooden fence with a few metal stays and Trilweld which is cheap.

we did a diy version of cat proofing it cost about £100 for materials brought from wickes and took two hard days but it is worth it, no escapes since September!

You can be in debt with time and pay the time back when you are feeling stronger, you could ask if you can use another areas time then you could have some of our 80 hours, but I expect that wpuld not work.

Cheers for that, Ela, it looks very interesting and a great idea, but I don't really have the energy to do anything like that at the moment, I'm barely managing to keep teaching the handful of paying pupils I've got and that's stimulated by the fact that that few quid a week makes up a big part of my income. I'm perfectly happy to pay someone to do it, I don't want or need a volunteer - have saved up and set aside some money for it - it's just a question of locating someone.

Just put Time Bank in your search engine., Becca for instance could give a music lesson and someone could put her fence up. You earn work in hours. One of our fosters regestered as Cates Protection and in a short time built up 80 hrs (the work she does for the charity, she can them perhaps cliam 2 hours for someone to do her garden, 1hr for someone to do her hair, 2 hrs cleaning etc.

Looks like there's going to be a major issue with labour - eg getting someone to install it.

Sooo... new question: does anyone know any really good competent cheap handyman types in south Manchester, please?  ;D

I Have the system from USA Bec for mine and it has gone up alot in price so the best for you is Roz's system which is fantastic. I know she has moved house and is still waiting for braodband i think so best to ring her. She is brill and will help ya plan what you need etc.  Will pm you her number xx

The price depends on the garden size, Do you have a wooden fence round it.

Do you have a Time Bank group near you? If so someone from there many well put it up for you.

Everyone I know who has made their garden cat proofed is very happy with it.

With the first really lovely day of the year my thoughts have turned to cat-proofing my garden so that Daffy, Letty and Ollie can go out and have a bit of a play. I'm not going to go into my reasons for opting for cat-proofing rather than letting them do their own thing but needless to say I am convinced that it is my best option and it's not a decision I have made lightly.

So... can anyone recommend a company that does it? I'd have to pay for it to be fitted as I don't have access to anyone that could do that sort of stuff for me, and I've budgeted for that. I reckon I could spend up to £500 if I really had to (I'd be much happier if it was £2-300, mind...), if it was more than that I'd have to postpone it 'cos I really couldn't afford it.

Has anyone got cat-proof fencing themselves, I'd love to know how it's working, if you're happy with it etc.
