You should be able to get the carpet protector strip from some carpet shops as well, if your DIY or hardware stores don't stock it.

I used the plastic carpet protector across the doorways where my last two used to do this if I shut the door on them.  Cut it to fit to the shape of the door frame etc as exactly as you can, and extend it a bit beyond each side of the door frame, both sides of the door.  Fix it down with self adhesive velcro so that the hooky bit grabs the carpet.

Any idea how to stop them scratching the carpet everywhere else though?  I have one who's blind and I don't want to make the place too scary and hostile for him (eg smelling of citrus and/or sticky tape on the floor) but both he and his sighted companion are wreaking havoc.  They've only just started doing this in the last month or so - had them for 1 year, aged 9 and 11 years.

Wilkos do carpet protector for about £4 a roll - might be worth getting some and seeing if it works.

My cats sleep in the hallway at night. Its gotten to the point that i have a barricade outside my door as once it gets light the are at my door and pulling the carpet out of the floor! I am in a rented flat so this isnt so good. Id understand if i had slept in late and hadnt fed them but they start early. I have tried to use a detterant spray on the carpet but iv ended up putting bricks and things on t he floor outside my door to protect the carpet. One day i am going to forget they are there and fall over them as i walk out the door lol.

Is there any way to deter them from ruining the carpet? I cant have them in my room at night as they keep me awake.

Its the same also if i go into a different room for any reason. Im in the process of setting up a workroom where i can do my jewellery making and il want to close the door as il be using a gas hand torch and have bowls of an acid substance. So its not a cat friendly place. But i know if i shut the door on them they will be outside it in seconds and scratching to be where i am. I wont be able to concentrate on my work.
