She seems a little calmer today but still has skittish moments, and she is still quivering a little bit, the stitches are fine, no weeping / swelling/ of any discription and she is eating well and a little while ago she had a mad 10mns throwing a pen round so im not quite so worried as i was,but im still keeping an eye on her and if in doubt will take her back to the vets

I wouldn't have thought hormone levels would change to cause such a sudden reaction, from what i've read it can take a good few months for hormones to change after neutering, sounds more like a reaction to anaesthetic to me. :-: Hope she's back to normal soon. :)

I've heard the opposite, that eg when women have a hysterectomy they get a sudden drop in hormone levels and are sometimes put on HRT straight away.  I would definitely think hormones would have an immediate effect on any animal they are constantly influencing the body.  I don't know whether that is the problem with Kali though it may be another or many factors.

Well neither of us got any sleep last night, she wasnt quite so hyper but is still acting scared and skittish, she has had some breakfast ,which i suppose is a good sign and shes drinking okay but during the night i was cuddling her and she kept shuddering as if little waves of pain were going through her then she got all skittish again, the vet said she had given her a pain killer which would last for 3 days so im mystified, think im going to ring the vet later and just ask for some more advice,i have to go to work at 10am and wont be home until about 8pm, andy is home bout 5.30 hope she will be okay :scared:

I think it must be hormonal - the only time I had a cat with kittens she went completely weird when they were around 3 weeks - petrified of everything and everyone, including me and her kittens - but she was fine the next day

When I had Macey done she was hyper too, got me rather worried, but she was ok in the end. When I had Lyla done she was up and about as soon as she got home, like she hadn't even been spayed!

Thank you all for the replies, she does seem a tiny bit quieter at the moment, shes in the spare room where its quiet and away from the others as she seems scared of them as well, just been seeking some advice on her and evidently orientals can react like this compared to ordinary moggies but i have been assured that she will be fine in the morning, but to be on the safe side i will be checking on her every hour just to be sure :thanks:

My little Gwynnie was completely hyper when she came home from spaying - practically bouncing off the walls, I've never seen her so active, but she wasnt acting scared or anything, just a bit, well, looney!

perhaps they are using a new anaesthetic and it is causing hallucinations - it does not sound like normal post-spay activity, more a fear reaction which could only be induced by the meds - they need to see this - can you film it at all?

I had Freddy and Lala neutered at the same time ...
Lala was nice and quiet and just slept BUT Freddy was hyper all evening....just like you are saying!

I texted my vet and he said it was normal, its something to do with what they bring them round with, can send them hyper for a while

I remember when our very first cat Penny was spayed she jumped straight on the ironing board and seemed 'extra lively' but it is a long time ago now so I don't remember much more but that sticks in my head.  It's good that you've contacted your vet and I could understand their reasoning abut their hormones as I've often wondered myself it must be a huge shock to their system, I would just keep in close contact and call them back if you're further worried

my fat Andy behaved like an absolute loon after she was spayed and Merlin was like something possessed last week when he came back from the vets.  they are the only 2 that have behaved strangely out of all of the cats i've had "done" over the years.  both were absolutely fine the next day.  Andy even pulled one of her stitches out on the first night but the vet said as long as it wasn't oozing it was fine.  it was a worry, with both of them but the next morning they were both back to normal.  maybe some cats just react strangely to the anasthetic.

if you are worried ring the vet back, i would.
