Thanks Ela - handy info to have  :shify: - still not sure if they can charge you for each item. I understand they can't charge for repeats but it doesn't mention what happens if your cat is prescribed several meds.

I was lucky with my vet as when I asked for a prescription, he said I could buy it at virtual cost as he would make a few pounds which is better than nothing - I get 56 for £25 (less than a month's worth for my 2 that are on it)

I told him I wouldn't question paying full whack one-off meds but it is different for long-term meds. He agreed.

I think ours charge £10 and that's for 1 item. Going to cost a fortune in future getting my Milbemax from the vets as they charge about £6 per 2-8kg tablet and about £4 for the smaller tablet and no doubt that will go up in cost soon enough!  :tired:

and it varies widely between vets.....frantas old vet its £8 and new vets is £4 plus

Yes they can. There was a 3 year ban on them charging, but the ban got lifted Oct 31st, 2008. Now vets are free to charge for prescriptions. Yes it is legal.

I havent been charged for prescription but i was wondering are vets allowed to charge you for prescriptions and is it legal for them to do so?
