From what my vet told me, some of the ear drops for ear mites make the mites crawl around a bit more so it can lead to more shaking/scratching

I would not worry about it!

O how I

this site - and everyone on it!! I knew that I would get some sensible help as soon as I asked - thank you again! When we got into the surgery, Percy had to be dragged from the carrier and, after an initial, short-lived escape attempt, he was an absolute angel! Claws clipped within minutes, microchipped without a murmur, and anti-ear infection/mite treatment administered (oooh, he loved that bit, being rubbed at the base of the ears!). Mind you, he's been in hiding since we got back (3hours ago) and is scratching and shaking his head more than before....hopefully it's those little pesky creatures vacating his ears that are causing the irritation now

?! Now it's back to trying to regain his trust again ........ the carrier is back in the cupboard and I hope we don't have to use it again at least until June (booster time).

Glad phase one went well - we have a couple of flippers in the scruff position and I have been to the doctors on a couple of occassions so now we used the welding gauntlets for them!

I have a top loader becasue Korky was always a real problem (he's mellowed in his old age) and got round the spread-eagle problem by catching him up in a towel. Voila - no feet!

Mind you, it was still a 2-person job.

I'VE DONE IT!! Percy is safely in his carrier - WAY too early - trapped him in the corner of the hall.......and why am I shaking so much?! Thank you all so much but I really hope we both don't have to go through this trauma too often!

Thanks for that, everyone! - I haven't even had much success in picking him up yet.......he's a real wriggle puss! Would you believe I'd 'forgotten' about the scruff of the neck technique????? What sort of fur-babe-mom am I?! Anyway, carrier is ready in the hall, Percy is (at the mo) out of hiding, I'll have a little play with him and then I guess it's time to try again and hope that I can outwit him this time, along with some flattened cardboard boxes, treats, towel.........I'll check in later to let you all know how it went?! xx

I should be so lucky - I have 5 minutes max after putting Trigger into a carrier before he poops everywhere

top loading carriers are much easier to 'load', though

I forgot to say you need to do this earlier rather than later cos once they are in the carrier you have the time to sort stuff out.......no point leaving it till the last minute

I have to trap Sasa my semi feral who cannot be touched.

I have to formulate a plan and stick to it.

I decide wher I am going to trap her and a small area with no way of escape is best, also needs no hiding places cos cats can jump high and are very ingenious , especially when scared.

I have a cage where one end opens completed and because she will run when I move towards her, I stary off making sure she is in the house. I shut every door upstairs and doors one by one down stairs to get her into the right room, the hall!

I block up the stairs and once she realizes she is trapped she starts to panic and cry and its heartbreaking. I get her to one end of the hall and use the cage with a blanket over it as a barracade and with the door open so she can rush in and used borads, carboard or anythng to make sure she is surrounded in a smallest corner I can get her in.

She will freeze but I cant lift her and she is very very strong and heavy so I have to try to calm her and slowly push he towards the cage......its the only time I can touch her except when she is on the vets table.......eventually she will run into the cage.

If your cat is not big and heavy and you are able bodied.....I am not...........then you maybe can pick him up and just put him in the carrier....I can so that with all my other cats but Sasa is just too scared and I just cant hold her when she starts to fight.

I would get him in to a room with not to many places to hide and not to many high surfaces and try and entice him with treats then scruff and place in box.

We have to do this with our ferals and have a top loading box as this makes it easier than trying to get him inthe front of the box and get the door shut.

It may seem like you are not being a nioce parent but it works and they do forgive you eventually - we have 2 of our real freaky ferals this mont so can symapthise - raven and panther are not reading this I hope!

mine have to be put in backwards other people put the carrier on its end and put them in bum first - he is unlikely to just wander in I don't think so a bit of tough love from you will come into it!

Percy is really getting brave now - BUT it feels like 3 steps forward and 2 back! My immediate problem today is that I really need to get him to the vet but had to cancel my appointment this morning, 'cos I couldn't entice him into the carrier! I have had the carrier visible since I brought Percy home.......and he's even gone in it of his own volition, but NOT today, when I need him to?! He really needs to go to the vet not only for much-needed nail clipping (he's now getting caught up in things) but also to check for ear mites/fleas .... he's started scratching and shaking his head but he's not confident enough for me to inspect him myself, and I don't even have the time to apply flea drops when he's resting - he's too suspicious still and runs away! I really don't want to stress him anymore than I have to .....does anyone have some simple and guaranteed tips for getting him into his basket by 3pm this afternoon???!! (I've tried putting tidbits in

- but 'cos he knows what I'm trying to do, he's not havin any of it!

) It feels as though I keep making mistakes and putting his progress back a few steps - but he quickly forgives me and comes out of hiding again!
