Charlie at vets today for abscess check UPDATED

He mostly eats wet food Kate, just used to have about 10 little biscuits a day as he loves them.  He has been on light biscuits for ages.  Just got a big sample bag of Arden Grange Light which he seems to like to will try those as an alternative to the Purina.  Charlie has always been a greedy cat, you could never leave a dish of anything out for him to graze on in the day as he woolfs the lot as soon as it is out.  Food is his life!  He was 5.6kg last time he was weighed which was just about right and now he is 6.1.  None of us want him to get too heavy as it isn't good.  He is very skitzy this morning, had two episodes but of short duration.  Very fast though.  After the first one he seemed a bit dazed.  Anyway will keep on going and see what happens at the three week period

Just how overweight is Charlie? I would say keep him slightly overweight if he's calmer, for both of your sakes. Just try not to let him balloon. Max is officially 'overweight' and has never been happier, so I have to choose whether to have him nervy and trim, or a bit too fat.  Is there a good quality dry food that's maybe less calorific? Those light diet foods make them ravenous and are for short term use only anyway. And eating calms him down a bit. Does he like wet food?

I agree you could end up going from 1 problem causing another eg if you had to put him on a diet afterwards that could affect his behaviour again.

I am going to cut down the amount of food he gets and only do the biscuits once a day.  I don't want to end up with a fat cat who has no energy and develops physical problems.  It's a hard one

The trouble is if his weight has increased in just 1 week and he could be on this programme for many months it could be hard to shift, I would just be cautious about it before it gets to that stage - no harm mentioning it to her? she may say not to worry but I would still ask her  (you are obviously anxious because you've mentioned it a few times, and rightly so) but that's just my opinion.

Too be honest I wouldnt worry too much about the weight at present, better to get him stabalized with help of the behaviourist and his food can be very slowly adjusted, so slowly that he doesnt notice

glad Charlie is ok, I'd have a word with the lady about the treats and weight - she must have come across this before and have some solutions

Well its over!!    to you for having to cope with it all!!  And the boosters done too so thats very positive Poor chap - it all sounds very undignified, though it does sort of bring a smile to the face .....(specially when I read Charlies version! )

It went ok.  He cried a bit on the way there but wasn't too bad, he was quite sleepy as I had to wake him up to pop him in the carrier.  The lump couldn't be found (bet it was hiding cos it was def there last night).  She had a good poke around and so did I.  Charlie was standing on one front leg almost on his head!  Anyway he HAS put weight on which I knew was going to happen so now I have to do the 6 meals, the biscuit forages and watch his weight.  It's almost nigh on impossible since all strenuous exercise is forbidden at the moment.  He had his boosters too = they are due next week but we got it all over and done with today.

we are with you all the way. Hope it's bye bye time to that lump asap. Sometimes I think the a.bs work but the lump takes a while to disappear. good luck Charlie and his mum  xxx

Wish us luck, lump seems to be still there but doesn't seem painful to him when I touch it.  I am nervous as I am afraid it will stress him out more
