If they will be safe and you are not near roads then I would probably let them out if they wanted to.
Please consider the harder to home cats in rescue.

All of my cats used to be out door, now they are constricted to a secure garden. Out of 5 of my cats 3 cat get out of the garden if they want, 2 go out to hunt and one goes out then comes running straight back in the front door. I think he is scared to go out the garden now. Although at my last house he went out doors a lot.

What Im saying is cats will adapt.
Just because your out of sight, does not mean your out of mind <3

yeah, well the flat im going to is rented but im planning to stay there a very very long time. i do not work away and i work at home so id always be there to let them in and out of the windows.

personally i think my cat taz would love to go outside, because hes very big,and he stratches everything in the house so i think going outside would give him some good deserved exercise and he can stratch anything he wants outside. well i could try and get them outside and see what happens cos id realy love them to have more freedom.

they would be indoor cats for about 4 weeks in the new place because i have to get pooka dressed and both of them jagged and upto date so we will see how it goes...

stick with what they are used to. Unless you are confident you will be moving to your own home where outdoor access is possible in the foreseeable future, then leave them as indoor cats if they are happy with that. Once they get a taste of outdoor life they will not be happy if you have to confine them again ...

i understand what you are all saying.i just want the best for my cats tbh.

i realy think they would be so much happier outside as they are a bit frustrated at the moment and id love to let them chill outside and get sum proper exercise and fresh air.

i dunno what to do now :(

Can I disagree

I have a cat that I got as rehomed Raggie, in her first house with us she was an indoor cat.  BUT she would pace between the doors and scratch at them, so when we moved we are now in a house with a wood next door.  She loves it she hunts all day and is much happier.  If some thing ever did happen to her (GFB) I know she has had a happy life doing what cats should do.

Thats why i said if they are happy indoors, then why rock the boat. If its a permanent move then fit a flap but guessed as they will have the window its probably rented so a flap is a no go

Now back to your question:
When I first let her out I did not give her that meal, so she was hungry and I went with her,  for 1st week only wanted to go in the back garden, and then she got brave and just kept an eye on her.  She is micro chipped and weres a ID collar, if ever she ends up somewhere she should not be.  But she does not go very far I think!

Letting them go out brings a lot of heart ache, only this week my other cat spent 10 hours up a tree after a dog chased him, my other cat went missing for 24 hours and we found 2 doors away in there house.  You do get to know your neighbours.  When they are ooy I am always lisening on the look out for them just to check they are safe.

Hope this helps only you can decide knowing your area you live and yoyrs cats personality.

If they are happy indoors id be inclined to leave them that way, if you move again and they cant go out you have yourself a problem as they may not revert back to indoor cats easily.

Could the window be left open all the time for them? Imo all cats should have easy access back to the house, i know of a lady whos cat went missing, a few weeks later he had made it home but got hit by a car on route, as he couldnt get back in he died outside in the cold. Had he been able to get in he may have been saved  :'(

hey there, im due to move flat on the 6th of febuary and i currently have 2 indoor cats(taz and pooka).

because my new flat is at the back of the building and goes out into the garden im considering letting them be outdoor cats by letting them out the window etc.

i realy need some advice on how to ease them to the outdoors without them running away and not cuming back etc.

i will keep themin the new house for about 3 weeks anyway because pooka needs dressed and they both need jags but i just need advice on how to introduce them to the outdoor life
without them not coming back :scared:

any advice would be fab! just incase i cant get on here, email me your advice on jessicaharrower@hotmail.co.uk, share your experiences!
