Naive me - heat question!!

Thankfully totally back to her normal self - and booked in for vets Wednesday with a view to getting assessed for neutering - so no more heats for this little one!

First heats can be fairly short and easy.

could the heat spell just have lasted 2-3 days? There has been no lolling on her back, chirruping or booty shaking since sat night! Does the first one go so quick... Am calling vet at 9am but seems heat has passed!

I am going to call the Vet first thing and see what they say .

The little lady hasnt been too bad today - seems to be a lot less writhing although she had been a bit withdrawn and gone for a couple of snoozes under the bed - mustnt be feeling too great!

Anyway hopefully by the end of the month there will be no more worries about Nina shaking her tooshy!

Actually, with cats, you want to get them spayed well before a month after, as they can come in and out of season quite quickly, so I Wouldn't wait that long.

It wont last long, I was caught out as well when my little girl went into season.  Approximately one month after her season is a good time to spay and the Vet will probably want to see her first to make sure that she is big enough.  The only reason that my Parrot was spayed was because I adopted her brother at the same time.

I had a queen in who wouldnt come out of heat so she was spayed and all was ok, phone your vet monday and see what hes happy doing (bypass the receptionist!)

Shows how easy it is for people to get caught out tho and how important early neuter is to prevent accidents, none of this wait til spring to start calling business

I thought they were late developers too!

She was born 06/07/08 according to her papers and is teeny but when I think we are in jan now she is actually 6 months in a few days! I was taking her to the vet anyway for a once over and I think she is small so thought he would want to check her out before booking her in !

Hilarious she has went into heat so quick after getting her and more hilarious that I didn't think! Hmmm

You will probably have to book her in to be checked over first, I am sure that is the way my vet works, they like to know the cat is big enough before they are dropped off at the surgery. I actually thought Siberians were slow developers, are you sure she isn't a bit older?

Can't remember. Has been a long time. The vet will advise re suitable timeframes for ops and such. Unless you have some other particularly pressing reason for taking her to the vet for a checkup, I would just make a phonecall and book her in. Any journey entails the risk of escape and cats in heat can be very determined ...

She def def cant get out - we are on the third floor and no one in the stair has an outdoor cat - there are another two indoors but they are female too!

Will maybe just take her for her check up then book the neutering for a week or twos time - how long does heat normally last in such a young un!! !

She sounds like she is definitely in heat, but you might like to wait until she gets over it before booking her for the vet (as long as you can be 1000% certain she can't get out. Because if she is in heat it is a more complicated operation, and has associated costs that might make it worth waiting just a few days more ... They really are quite shameless at a time like this aren't they

Thankfully she has three flights of stairs to get down before she meets the boys of the neighbourhood!!! 

Yes will call the vet first thing Monday and clarify whether he wants to see her first then book or it can all be done in a oner!! Crikey - now I remember why I havent had a female cat since I was about 12 lol!!!

Certainly sounds like it ... lots of rolling around, being noisy and bum wiggling are all signs.

You need to keep a close eye on her as she will probably be dead set on "getting out"  to meet the boys in the neighbourhood!!!

Good luck at the vet and I would get her booked in for spaying immediately.

Hello all - so as some may know kitten Nina has been with us now two weeks today - 

I have called my vet and registered her and I am planning on taking her to the Vet during the week for her full check up. Her previous owners had had a full health check for her and gave me all her certificates so I got her insured as soon as I got her and figured with all the festive chaos I would let her settle and get her to the vets.

Now Nina is nearly six months and obviously the first chat I would be having would be neutering as I know 6 months is a good age to do this (or at least I think - maybe I am wrong - figured vet knows best). Nina is really teeny so I wasn't too alarmed - but eh I think she might have went into heat!!

It's been a long time since I have been around a cat in heat but all this lying on the floor and shaking her bum everywhere and making a lot of chirrups has got me thining  .....does that sound like she has went into heat? it all started last night and I thought she was just playing with Edgar but today she is just lolling about, chirruping and shaking her tooshy!!

My two are neutered so no concern there - but poor wee bab seems too tiny for that just now!!
 

I know I sound like a bleeding numbskull and I am 101% getting her neutered - I think having had her such a short time and her being so teeny - well I expected her to be a late bloomer - she is not quite six months and pah I guess I was being dumb!!

I know some people say they should be neutered before their first heat - but I would imagine with the timing of it I wouldnt have managed that with all the holidays and closed Vet days and her first consultation etc even with the best will in the world - oh I am a donut!!!!!
