Hi, have only recently registered with Purrs and on browsing noticed this thread. The story sounded familiar and I realised that they were talking about my Sammy (or Sylvester when we are being polite). I thought people might like to know what happened to him. He has been with me, my son and our 2 other FIV+ (soon to be 4) and one FIV- cats for around 6 months now and has settled in very well indeed. He is a super cat, lovely natured and (if he does say so himself) is extremely handsome. His rescue involved so many people - the man whose garden shed he had been living in, Westways vets, Cat protection, a lady called Jean who transported him down to Leicester, Catchat where I saw the plea and finally myself. It just goes to show that networking and a team effort really does pay off.

Sorry I was unable to access the internet yesterday. Sorry to keep you all waiting! Good news is, this boy is now sorted thanks to cat chat (once again!) and should be heading to a foster home in Leicester soon, but is safe!

(Re Brysons, they were my first call as I work closely with them, but they didn't have immediate space. They rehomed their positive cats and are now using the "FIV enclosure" for another purpose. They will not PTS positive cats that come their way, but have no set space for them now.)

UPDATE
We had a message on our phone that they can take this puss at Bredhurst but cannot keep the space open for long.. I tried to ring them back but they are now closed.. I can do that tomorrow.. But can someone findout about Emma and also how quickly a transport run can be organised for this.. i doubt they will keep space open that long.. And i need to 100 percent confirm tomorrow... but good news..

Sorry not much more help here...

Hi all, hope this little lad is ok.

Emma have you tried Brysons? At the risk of teaching 'granny to suck eggs' so to speak I know they used to have an FIV unit (two of mine were from there)

Also PARRT are FIV friendly and may well be worth a try if you haven't already.

If you're really really stuck I could take him short term with my other FIV cats but would literally only be for a couple of weeks (I'm away a lot and think 3 is enough to ask kind neighbour to see to!)

I have just spoken to Bredhurst (maidstone way) they have on FIV on their list but are happy for him to be added to it. Turnaround for FIV cats is not bad as they home to Maidstone and Gillingham areas.. Emma you will need to ring them to do this and obv transport would then be an issue when they have space.. Number is 01304 232471, he would need to be fully vac and neutered. He would need to be okay with other cats as they have FIV unit where they are kept together.

Also try Foal Farm.. I think Michelle has dealings with them. I rang them just a minute and it was answerphone, but i think Michelle knows them well.. They rehome alot of FIV cats...as long as they have room.

Hope that helps....this litter one..

I have not had any response from my contact at the moment.. But will keep trying..However, if a more local CP took  him under their wing i would think HQ at Haywards heath would have no problem placing this one... But it would need to be sorted out via  CP branch... and then transport sorted.. Thats a back up plan!

  • Where are we supposed to sleep, then?
Has anyone tried Ela? Unless I'm getting mixed up, she deals a lot with FIV and don't they have a special pen? And much nearer than us in Canterbury.

Just a thought...  :shy:

oooh fingers crossed this little lad will be ok.  If you need to set up a convoy down south I am in Nottingham (M1) and would be willing to assist with transport for part of the leg if that helps.
In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

I am Westways in Newcastle, a vets that does small scale rescue. This kitten is not yet sorted and may still need a rescue place, but I will hopefully be going to get him today. Will update tonight.

He is currently in another vets practice in Morpeth, and I have been told he is 6 months old but haven't seen him myself yet. I want to be able to take him in but he needs to have somewhere to go first.

I realise we are long way from you (Kent way) but i had a email yesterday from a lady who is looking for an indoor cat as she lives in a flat although has a small enclosed garden.. She works part time from home while studying for  degree in Law i think.. No other animals or kids around.

I am speaking to her today, may be unrealistic due to the distance but you neverknow.. I recently helped a FIV puss cat to be rehomed from Bromley CP via one of our contacts so it can work...

Any idea of age etc...?

As usual the response on the net is amazing - I *think* this little boy may have a home secured but please leave this open until I can confirm, or I may need to request a transport run for him. Also just want to clarify that I have been approached by another vets to take this one on and am not threatening to PTS him personally - but I don't have room to offer him a rescue space myself at the moment.

« Reply #1 on: June 25, 2008, 22:05:26 PM »
6 month old, male, black, kitten.
FIV POSITIVE - this means he will have to be a strict housecat for life
(more info on FIV here: http://www.catchat.org/fiv.html )
This little boy has 3 DAYS to find a rescue space or home or he will be PTS.
Currently in the North East.
I can castrate him if I can find him somewhere to go - I am full to bursting.
