We don't officially home over Christmas and New Year, however, as with most things in life there are exceptions in exceptional circumstances. But we are available in an emergency. When I am away there is a message on my answer phone:- This is for information only as the machine does not accept messages. For motorcycle training please ring on 5th Jan.

For Cats Protection  between 19 Dec & 5 Jan  please ring 01246 xxxxxx  this number is if for emergencies only, we consider an emergency a stray cat in a life threatening situation. If you have lost or think you have a stray cat please see the lost & found page on our internet site www.chesterfieldcats.co.uk. if you do not have internet access please ring 01246 xxxxxx. for neuter/spay vouchers please ring 01246 xxxxxx if you would like to adopt a cat please ring our shop 01246 xxxxxx they will have details of our fosterers. Pictures of the cats for adoption are in the gallery on our site www.chesterfieldcats.co.uk. Although we will not normally be re-homing until after the New Year.

During this time we cannot deal with any other calls. However, if you have a cat that you cannot keep please ring the Derby shelter on 01332 824950 between 11 am & 3 pm any day and ask the cat be put on their list of cats waiting to come in. If you know of a road traffic accident or cruelty case please contact the RSPCA inspectorate 0870 5555 999 then when a voice answers press 2. 2. 4. That will save time listening to options. They are available 24 hours a day. If you own a cat that has been involved in road traffic accident please contact your vet or any other vet listed in the phone book. If your own vet is not available 24/7 there will be an emergency number on their answer phone.

Actually, it isn't just RSPCA that shut for X MAs, pretty much all rescues do - we stop homing for X Mas in a fortnight, and officially we dont take any in, although that hasn't worked the last two years. You can't actually get hold of my CP Branch after a certain date in December, they just keep the phone on answermachine. There are very valid reasons for not homign over X MAs, and if you are full on the day you stop homing, you can't take any more in.

My fosters tend to be with me an average of 3 months CC, but at least she will be going to a home environment rather than a pen, so she should be fine. Not sure why your friend can't just keep them as indoor only cats though, if the road is an issue.

I did not reallise that the RSPCA stopped taking in cats at Xmas.

I don't know if that is policy or if it is a branch thing. I know ours stopped at the beginning of December last year and were passing people onto us.
