Change food to what?

Thanks for all your help. I've contacted Arden Grange direct and asked them for some samples of their sensitive food. after reading your posts I thought it would be wise to see if the cats would actually eat it before buying any . If they don't like it I will be back re-reading this and seeing what they will eat.

Arden Grange do do a dry cat food, but it's not avalable in many shops.  If you can't get hold of that you could try james wellbeloved, pets at home premium, hi life or royal canin.  Or if you want grain free, orijen is good (available from zooplus) and applaws have recently brought out a new grain free dry.  I feed orijen usually (for the small amount of dry I feed) but when I can't get that I feed hi life dry or james wellbeloved.  Although at the moment, Mosi is eating Royal canin beauty.

For wet food I feed animonda, bozita, schmusy, cosma (all from zooplus), hi life essentials (asda - usually cheaper than felix/whiskas pouches but with more meat), tesco luxury, tesco finest, applaws/almo nature/encore (all complementary so not fed all the time).  I've recently added pets at home purely wet food and they like that.

Charlie has Bozita in jelly, Tesco Luxury, Purina Light and Orijen biscuits - not all at the same time!  His poos have improved since I took him off Felix

I wish my pair would go for the good stuff - have tried royal canin, JWB and most recently the PAH premium stuff - they are just not interested!!

The love a lot of wet foods but seem to go off them quickly - even Applaws which I used to given them as a treat they don't go daft for anymore!!

I ended up trying them on one in Lidl- purely because I had tried all dry's as I like to give them a mix (have never tried go-cat or supermarkets ones). Well they love it - it is call Opticat and they have that with Felix.

i worry it is not good for them but sometimes cats have a mind of their own - especially when they get to my twos age (12) - having only had them since february I wonder if they were just used to the junk food diet!!

I think wet can make their poos more smelly and loose - but as said before it is good to given them some wet especially if you worry they don't get enough water

I'm here to sing the praises of Pets at Home premium!

Its' equivalent in nutrition and beneficial additives (such as cranberry for urinary tract health) to JWB.

When I adopted my 3 they came with dull coats and eyes, my grey boy also had a wheat allergy and was prone to vomiting and a runny bum. The premuim ranges including PAH have no wheat, but source thier carbs from rice, potatoes and occasionally oats (certain purina brands)

They now have bright eyes, beautiful coats and Z has no tummy troubles whatsoever!

Well done you for wanting them off the 'junk food'  .....Wish it was as easy to persuade my father to move his cat over!

Tilly used to have sensible for her bengal tum but that is all ok now, Star has the light food for her big tum! and I got exigent (sp?) for Amber at the weekend to try and get her back on to some form of cat food after eating only tuna since she bit her tongue!

Royal Canin do so many variants but the one that seems to go down well in this house in sensible 33 - it is supposed to be for cats with iffy stomachs but any cats can eat it and it is really meaty.

my cats love royal canin - I've tried all the other brands mentioned except orijen - I know that some people don't like royal canin but mine really enjoy it

I would say there will be an improvement with any premium food. My cats are OK with Orijen but not mad on it. They love Science Plan but I have stopped buying it as they tend to gain too much weight - although it is premuim, it still has quite a lot of cereals in it - but also decent nutrients + prebiotics etc.

  Okay it's really time to get some glasses. Thanks for that, how do you find your cat does on this? I can't get this unless I order from them direct which is what I do with my dog food.

It doesn't suprise me that Go-cat is poor quality and I wander if a diet change will help with the shedding and the 'moods' of Spider who has the poorly tum, she also apparently geys hairballs.

If you have trouble getting Arden Grange, there are plenty of other decent dry foods like Royal Canin, James Wellbeloved, Pets at Home also do a premium dry. Go-cat dry is probably the poorest quality food you can buy and mostly cereals and colouring.

I have tried feeding mine James Wellbeloved and Burns but they don't like them. There is also an excellent food called Orijen that you can buy from Zooplus (link at bottom of page - 5% goes to purrs) that has no cereals in at all. Given that cats aren't designed to eat cereals, as far as dry food goes, it is probably the best. Most people also agree that cats should be fed at least 50% wet food.

 My partners cats are on Go Cat. I have noticed that one of them has loose and smelly movements so want them on a high quality food when they come to live with me. As I assume this has to be changed slowly as with dogs I want my OH to start the process whilst they are in a familiar enviroment.

My question is what to change them to. The food that I feed my dog is Arden Grange but they don't do cats .  My OH had been told IAMS but we saw a thread about the cruelty issues with them. At the moment I am looking at James Wellbeloved and Burns.  Has anyone any experience of these foods and their effects?
