Weeing differently indoors...

Are there many cats in the area? Maybe he squats outside because he wants to pretend he isn't weeing, especially if he isn't a dominant cat.

Perhaps try having another litter tray indoors. He might not like sharing his loo!

How about using something that's not designed as a litter tray, like a deep plastic storage box, the sides would be too high for him to spray over and you can just wipe down the sides when you scoop.

What a goood idea! I was going to suggest trying to get a tray with higher sides but this would def do the trick!

You could try putting a piece of good quality plastic sheet at that end......fix it to tha carrier......something thick like pond liner

Thanks all, interesting thought about changing the litter, I'll give that a go!  Yes I do have another cat but she only ever uses the tray if she's feeling poorly, and he only seems to use it to spray in    Before they were allowed outdoors I had 3 trays between the two of them and he still did it then. 

I do now use a covered tray but he sprays so hard it leaks through the join

Can't offer any help as to why he does it but I think I would try a covered litter tray then it wouldn't go everywhere!

I dont know but does sound he is spraying in the tray.....do you have other cats?

No idea really but I have noticed that Korky adopts different positions in different types of litter (same tray) so perhaps you could try a different type of litter. Or perhaps he sprays hard to try to get maximum coverage to mark his territory if its a communal tray.

This isn't a particular problem (apart from the fact that cleaning the tray is a bit gruesome!) but I'm just curious. 

When Geoffrey goes for a wee outdoors, he squats right down and wees into the ground.

But when he's using a litter tray indoors, he stands up and sprays hard towards the back.  Because he was weeing over the top of the original trays I had, I replaced them with covered ones, and he still does it in these...he sprays so hard that it leaks through the join between the top and bottom piece of the tray, making cleaning an absolute joy    They now have one tray as they usually go in the garden, it's upstairs in our en suite behind a discreet little wall, but he was doing it previously wherever the tray was. 

Like I say, it's not a particular problem, I'm just curious really as to why he would behave like this?  Anyone got any ideas?
