My vet gives me Drontal and after less than successful administering previously I have now cracked it. Not had any problems but it's preventative for the moment as he's not going out properly as yet and I don't know what his hunting skills will be like. Curiously, Chilli is an avid mouser and also gets the occasional bird but never had any issues with worms.

Take one tablet (or three quarters in my case at the moment), take one Webbox stick treat thingy (Aldi do better ones super cheap), cut up tablet and insert into pieces of stick. Et voila, Dave thinks I'm being a lovely meowmy by giving him a treat and I can give him his tablet in one go without him even noticing.

I bought Drontal a while back, but chose not to use it after a friend (and Mark) said it can cause foaming at the mouth because the size of the pills.

Its not the size, its because the drug is bitter and makes them salivate first shot with a drontal or your screwed lol

The powerful people are looking into making other products eg stronghold milbemax, un POM'd

And I get the Fortekor cheap so would have cost over £100 for what I got below at my old vet

Milbemax sadly is still prescription only, which is a bit puzzling really if it is the same as Drontal

Can you buy Milbemax online then?

My friend says de-worming is a great struggle at their house, so I went back to super-easy and super-small Milbemax and it goes down really well here (hidden in a prawn!)

Right so I need a 4kg one and 4 6kg one's? I know Ted, Ollie and Macey are over 4kg but not sure about the other 2.

I usually use Milbemax if only Harry needs doing but they cost over a £5 each and all of mine need doing.

although they get Milbemax as I can't use Drontal.

We use Milbemax too as it has been recommended to me as a much better wormer, it really is very good. (used to use Drontal though and never had any problems!) Maybe call the vets and ask what they recommend if you're worried about the cat:tablet ratio.

While an XL might be a tad much, a normal one isn't enough, so if worms are an issue, it is much better to give them a tad too much than not enough, as not enough wont kill all the worms, although if it is just a preventative, then it may be OK. Luckily for me, both girls are under 4kg, although they get Milbemax as I can't use Drontal.

According to that link I should be giving Lu (5kg) an XL.  It contradicts itself a bit though as it also says:

The recommended dose rates are 57.5 mg/kg pyrantel embonate and 5 mg/kg praziquantel. This is equivalent to one Drontal Cat Tablets per 4 kg bodyweight and 1 Drontal Cat XL Tablets per 6 kg bodyweight.

He doesn't weigh 6kg so by going on the above an XL would be too much for him.

Regular cat drontal is upto 4kg, 4 - 6kg is drontal XL.  6-8kg is 2 normal ones.

I know!  The 6 pack of Frontline was only a few pounds more than vetuk (£16 odd vetuk v £18 odd PAH) , I just couldn't believe the mark up on the Drontal

If they are over 4kg but under 6kg then I'd get the normal (4kg) ones.  Wormers contain harsh drugs so I wouldn't want to give more than the recommended, I give Riley the big ones and Lu the normal ones.  I'm sure Lu is over 4kg but he's definitely not over 6kg and I don't want to overdose him.

Incidentally I saw a two pack of normal Drontal in PAH yesterday for £7.99  They're £1.42 each at vetuk

On vet uk just now, which ones do I get? The 4kg or the 6?

I know Lyla is not over 4kg, well I think not, but the others are not over 6kg. What do I do?
