But as we know, if there is a human anywhere near that will open the door, there is no chance of them going through any kind of flap  :evillaugh:

We have our cigs  coffee in the garden. Kylie taps the flap for one of us to open the door  :evillaugh:
Word.

What are us humans like?  :evillaugh:
Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.

Don't give in to her and open the door. If you do that, she'll know that eventually she'll have door-opening service.

How long has she been using it with it propped up? Maybe you need to prop it open for a little longer.

One of the things I did with F and V was to kneel in front of the cat flap and push my own nose through. Sounds silly, but they're both using the flap now.
Cats were once gods; they have never forgotten this, nor have the people they own.

With my first cat many years ago and with the kittens this year I had to take the magnetic strip out so that the cat flap swings freely.

that sounds like a really good idea! She knows where it is but doesn't push so if it moves when she puts her nose up that woul help me thinks!

We need Petporte to introduce a deluxe model with a sliding door?  :evillaugh:

I'll buy that!

I am hoping I will be able to sneak it back in before the really cold weather starts. It's been five months now.

Eventually she worked out going out but not coming back in

We have always had the same issue with Willow but the other way round. Even when the flat was propped open for a whole summer. She won't go out but barges through it to come in - especially if Kylie is behind her  :evillaugh:

7 years later and she still won't go out - at least when we are around  :shify:

Milly didn't pick up the whole cat flap concept very easily, even after watching Geoffrey do it.  We did literally have to post her through it each way - and every time she wouldn't come back through but bolted in when we opened the door, we would pick her up, take her back outside and post her through it again.

Eventually she worked out going out but not coming back in  I watched her for a while and realised she was pushing on the door not the flap to get back in.  Having read a bit about cat eyesight and colour contrast we concluded that she could see the light outdoors when looking out, so knew where to push, but the contrast was much less when she was looking back in, so she couldn't tell which bit was the flap.  We solved this by putting some yellow/green striped earth insulation tape round the outside of the flap to provide a better contrast.  She soon worked it out and then a couple of weeks later I started removing the tape a piece at a time, and she still uses it fine now.

It's also just worth checking that it's not too high and they can physically reach to do it.  When Sooty (RIP) got old he stopped using the flap and we posted him half way through and watched him, and it turned out that with him getting slightly arthritic, it was just too high and he couldn't get his back legs through...one 'step' made of paving slabs later and he could use it again.

Just to say, we've used treats as an incentive and calling her through as well as propping the flap open for a couple of days. We also put her through the flap very regularly so want some new ideas :) She is a very 'special needs' puss cat and in all honesty does struggle with any new concepts but it would be much nicer for her to be able to come and go as she wants so want to crack this.

Thanks in advance!

Well I'm here for advice again, and as expected it's in regard to Layla. Oscar uses the cat flap really well, Rufus will when he's been neutered in a couple of weeks as he worked it out when he wasn't supposed to! (it's locked so that they can come in but not get out at present) The thing is, Layla has never got the hang of the flap and will just sit with her nose on it and cry until she gets let in. She ca quite happily go through it when the flap's propped up but can't seem to work out that she needs to push the flap. I want to start training her with it again from scratch in about 3 weeks time once Rufus can go out and want some ideas!
