Woman who flew to Amsterdam accidentally packs cat in luggage

I guess she discovered it before the catsitter found it was missing, but not sure how you could fail to hear a kitten squawking all the way to the airport ... Mine would be audible even from the boot. But then I don't have music on a 1000 decibels when driving. Bringing it back would have involved not only the airfares but also the petpassport procedure which I imagine would take a little longer than the time available on a short break. But you do rather wonder why she would leave a small kitten alone anyway if that was her intention (even with a visiting cat-sitter, assuming she had made such arrangements. Very confusing that one...

She has probably saved for the holiday and then didnt have the £1500 or so it would have cost to have got him back to England

I did think that too - we have to save if we want to go on holiday.

Aw, what a shame - I can't imagine how that must feel to have to leave your cat behind!

I always do a head count and they each get a kiss before I walk out the door so it would never happen to me.

It's really sad that she could afford t go on holiday (and no bout buy all her duty frees) but she couldn't afford to bring her baby back home ... when all the kitty wanted to do was be near her mummy!!!

I think I would have tried to smuggle her back home the same way!

I think the fact that she left if behind means its likely she doesn't give it a kiss when she goes out

No way could I miss accidently packing the cat - especially as I'd give him a hug and kiss right before I leave.

I agree, I give all my cats a kiss on the head and cuddle before going away. More for me than them - I miss them all terribly when I don't get to see them every day. I think the airport should've paid for the kitten to come home - their equipment didn't pick it up.

I read this the other week and there was a full page article with pictures. She has 2 young children one was 9 and the other one younger. I have to say I was thinking whether one of the children packed the kitten  I've heard about things like that in the past where a child wants to take a pet on holiday with them.

The only reason I thought that was because when I pack, my suitcase is always very full and gets repeatedly checked to make sure I have everything. No way could I miss accidently packing the cat - especially as I'd give him a hug and kiss right before I leave.

A woman who flew to Amsterdam rubbed her eyes in disbelief when her kitten jumped out of her luggage.

Beauty secretly crept into Helen Wilmore's suitcase as she packed for a holiday.

The three-month-old then endured 21 hours stuck inside. Mum-of-two Helen, 36, of Bradford, said: "I can't believe she survived."

She has now given Beauty to a Dutch sanctuary as she cannot afford to bring her home. Leeds-Bradford Airport is probing why its scanners did not detect the cat.
