On his next visit ask the vet to take the sample for you, job done and no more stress for Jess (or you!)

I'm beginning to think this might be the easier option too to be honest

Day 5

There was no way it was happening today. As soon as I checked the trays there were 2 wees from Jess. It was almost as if to day I've been so  :censored: you.

I know its been stressing Jess as well as we've had reduced wee's the past couple of days.

Definitely saucer in mid flow is easiest as I found out recently with Sam - I shut him in a room with 2 trays filled with several packs of Katkor, many hours later he had refused to use them. Decided that wasnt going to work and just stood by at the usual trays with me saucer - nearly missed him squatting then, but suddenly realised he'd gone into the cupboard where the trays are and quickly got my saucer and shoved it under - as Clare said, once they've started they don't stop! I think its less stressful for the cat than putting litter down that they are not used to and shutting them in rooms where they wouldnt normally be shut in.  :)

I'm going to have to put it on hold after tomorrow.

We're going to stay with my mother in law next Friday till Monday and I don't want to stress Jess any more than necessary so I won't be able to try again for almost 2 weeks which is frustrating.

I've just found out I need to get one for Max in a week or so  :tired: , hope I don't have to start a similar thread again  :evillaugh:

Keep up the good work Leanne, you'll get the sample you need eventually, cats are good, but they're not THAT good, they can't avoid you forever

Day 4

We decided to try a different tray this morning, the covered one. In goes the katkor and a shredded carrier bag. We get lots of interest from Jess, walking backwards and forwards and getting in but he won't wee.

We leave it down for 45 minutes but nothing.

Looks like we're trying again tomorrow.

Day 3

Get up check the trays, I didn't think Jess has been.

Put the litter in the open tray. Look in the covered tray and his been  :evillaugh:! Didn't think it was worth peservering so took up the katkor.

Turn round and the little devil is in the covered tray. I say to Hubby don't worry his not weeing his doing a number 2 he never sticks his head out the tray or wee's when we're there. Jess walks off shaking his paws I open the tray and what is there..............you've guess it a nice big wee  :censored:

Will try again tomorow, I also think I might get some more Katkor from the vets tonight.

Candice found that two packs of litter worked well. I had major issues with Tom, to the point where he jumped on teh settee to use the tray with normal litter and 6 hours in one room - he then spent the day at the vets!!
Please spay your cat

Sorry hun, I don't mean to make light of this, I know its difficult, lord knows I spent the best part of a week trying to get our first sample, its not easy

Don't be silly, I'm fine chicken

If I don't joke about it I'll cry  :evillaugh:

He is so particular I've never met an animal like it. He is a stubborn as a mule and ties my patience beyond belief. But I guess I do it cause I love him.

Seriously hun, the best way is this:-

Leave the sample litter down as you have done, when you know they need a wee, switch back to the normal tray, then hover with a saucer or glass.

It is defo the most tried and tested method on here  :shy:

I know but there is no way I could get near to Jess when he is going to wee, he is shy nervous about going, he would just hold it.

Day 2

As yesterday we take the trays away except the one with the special litter.

Jess needs to wee his pacing around. Goes to the tray many times gets in scratches around but he won't go.

We leave it down 40 minutes, then take it up. Will try again tomorrow.

Because Jess is a sensitive boy with litter tray issues we don't want to stress him out but we really need a sample from him.

You can get a pack of special crystals and a pipette from vet.  You need to thoroughly clean litter tray and then put special crystals in it, cross fingers and toes and wait for pud to use tray. The crystals don't soak up the urine so you then use pipette to remove a little urine from tray and put in sample bottle.  Look; if I can do it anyone can

I can only imagine the trauma and mess involved in trying to get a pee sample from either of my cats.

I ended up using 'pot under bum' method with Geoffrey earlier this year...literally kept him within eyeline all the time (thank goodness for laptops!) and kept deep saucer also handy.  When I saw him head off to usual toilet place I snuck up behind him and stuffed the saucer in the way  :evillaugh:

I need to get one from Jess this week.

Got up early this morning and there were 3 wee's across the 3 litter trays so I knew Jess was due to go.

Hubby got feeding whilst I scrapped and hid a tray. Put the uncovered tray down with the special litter in, Jess promptly walks in.

We wait with baited breath, he reappears. I take a peek, there is nothing! Turn round and the little monkey has run upstairs and used the tray up there which he never uses.

Looks like we're be trying again tomorrow.

It going to be a long week.
