 :welcome: to Purrs

Sorry to hear about Lucy and I agree with what the others have said.

Any threats by your neighbour or a cat being shot should have been reported to the police at the time but the most important thing now is to find Jess and bring her home. As she is grieving she may have found herself someone to feed her cos their house doesnt have the Lucy smells in it.

I hope that she comes home soon and if not you need to start the lost cat procedures as in our lost cats section........will put the link up after this post.

Once you have her home keep her in and give her lots of love and attention cos cats grieve just the same as us

I'm so sorry to hear about poor Lucy.  You must all be missing her dreadfully, including Jess.  Jess will also be picking up on your sadness, and is probably very confused and worried about the changes in the house.  Cats are very sensitive to this, and they certainly do grieve themselves when they lose a companion - I have seen it in my own cats.  This probably accounts for Jess's loss of appetite, rather than someone else suddenly feeding her.

I would suggest keeping her in for a while, partly for her own safety, but also so that you can give her more attention so that she feels more settled, and gets used to the fact that Lucy is no longer with you.  I can understand why you are so much more anxious about something happening to Jess after losing Lucy, so having her near might help you as well.

She will settle down eventually, and with cats this can take weeks, or even months, so just give it time.

Also if she is missing for longer today please start searching for her. She could get locked in a shed or someones house and they don't know it. In our Lost and Found Section there is a tips thread on all you can do to find your missing cat.

I would also consider getting a solicitor to write a stern letter to your neighbour. Our cats are classed as property and property damage is a crime. Point out that as he has made a threat, if antthing happens to her. the finger will point at him!  >:(

Hopefuly she will be back this morning

:welcome: to the forum

Sorry to hear about your Lucy, the loss of a pet is always hard on all family members including your other pets. Jess is grieving and that's normal and her behaviour is an indicator of that, she is possibly trying to find out where Lucy has gone.

As you're worried for her safety, then do keep her in but make sure she gets lots of attention, to let her know she is loved. Make sure she is microchipped if not already. Especially if you have a neighbour threatening her and you are convinced he is the one who shot her.

Her disappearing overnight for a couple days is a worry too, if you can keep her home especially during the dark hours so she knows where home is and its where the love is.

I am sure others will offer more advice.

Hi! I'm a new user with a quite urgent question

Jess is my 15 year old tabby, and since her canine pal Lucy died 1 month she has been acting weird. Then she used to spend hours outside, which really isn´t like her, then she would come for some food before going again.I was giving her attention, like stroking her and making sure she had food to eat.

A couple of days ago, she went at about 5.00pm then came back today. She looked OK, and I did give check to see if she had been hurt. I offered her some canned food, the first time she turned her nose up at it, then the second time she only ate the jelly off the top. I went to get her some milk, but by the time I came back outside she had gone. I don´t know if some other family is feeding her, but she is usually a friendly cat towards me. For the past few weeks though, she has been lounging around on the table in the garden, now she doesn´t.

I get really concerned for her safety- about two years ago, Jess was shot with an airgun and got a pellet lodged in her side. I found it when I was stroking her. A few days later, my neighbour from two doors down threatened the cat- saying that if she came in his garden he would hurt her. That terrified me- and know I am scared that he will carry out his threat and hurt her. My worst fear is her dying away from home, and in the hands of that maniac. I´m convinced it was him who hurt her before- she never ventures too far from home usually.

HELP! What do I do? I planned to get her inside next time I see her then change her collar to one with our phone number on it, just in case something happens. That´s if I do see her again :-(
