I have a suggestion for the Charlie + spitting  cat problem. You could buy some cat repellent and spray the top of the fence. This was how I got rid of one neighbourhood toms who sat on the fence beyond the netting. It also may put Charlie off trying to chew his way out. Warning though - do it just before you are planning to take a shower and wash your hair because the cats won't come anywhere near you once you have used it!

I have the securacat system and it's brilliant.  Charlie loathes it and tries to chew threw it and I do have problems with a neighbour's cat sitting and spitting at Charlie.  System is quite unobtrusive though.

It is such a good idea but it must of cost a fortune.   I would never be able to do it.

No other cats have come into my garden since I got it done. Occasionally they sit on the fence on the other side of the netting, but none have been crazy enough to try jumping up and in over the netting. They cannot climb the netting, which is nylon, not wire. It sags when a cat tries to put weight on it, so they cannot climb it.

I thought my cat Mini (8 years) would hate it is she had always been an indoor/outdoor cat and previously roamed through neighbours' gardens. She LOVES it, because no other cats can get into the garden. Admittedly my garden is large (30m long, 10m wide) so I have effectively doubled the territory my 4 cats have to share. You can tell they see it as home territory now because all the cat trails have gone - they go everywhere rather than patroling. I would see how the 14 years old felt about it before worrying about finding her a way out.

As the wire hangs over does it stop other cats getting in, will they not climb onto the wire and jump.

any thoughts as to how a 14 yrold cat will cope with being confined to the garden....shes lived here all her life and is used to coming and going as she pleases......was thinking of installing a microchip reading catflap somewhere to still let her out as the cat proofing is ment to be mainly for jake and mia............

thanks

rachel

The work email for Securacat (Roz's firm) is securacat@aol.com

They catproofed my garden in May and it was one of the best things I have ever done.

They will be a bit negative about the trees, but I managed to keep a full-sized ash, a plum, a crabapple and a pear tree.

If the hedge is a boundary I think that might be a problem. If there is a fence behind the hedge that may be OK.

The slideshow of my catproofed garden is here and if you are thinking you can't see much catproofing - exactly!
