I sound much the same too then, one of each.

Fergus started purring first when he was small. I then didn't notice him purring at all for ages and now he does it very quietly, more like a gentle humm. You can hear it if you put your head against his tummy. I love it when he purrs though, as you can't hear him so obviously it feels more special in a way. His meow is more of a "maw" noise and when he does it by the door when he wants to go outside, he sounds more like a baby screaming, I'm surprised the neighbours haven't said something!!

Polly on the other hand purrs at the drop of a hat and really loudly. Her meow is more of a squeak and we have some lovely conversations together  :rofl:

Despite being siblings, mine are really different too. Amber has quite a loud purr and tends to knead a lot with her paws, sometimes licks whatever you're wearing too. She has a really loud siamese like miow. Chilli has  very quiet purr but drools on you if you stroke her a lot and like head butting, she has a miow which can only really be described as a squeak!

yes barnaby sounds like he is being murdered when he meow's. at the moment his thing is sneezing just figured out its the fan blowing on him  :rofl:

Just shows how individual cats are  :Luv2:  Sophie has a very quiet purr and sometimes you can only feel her vibrating.  Her miieow makes up for it though!!!

oh i'm so happy i went to bed yesterday afternoon to rest my back, barnaby came with me and for a few mins he was purring very quiet but i heard him....it was amazing  :wow:

Yup - Jaffa purrs loud enough to wake the dead while Mosi doesn't purr at all.  At least, I say he doesn't purr but if I lay my head on his side I can sometimes feel vibrations.  he just doesn't make any noise.

Well, I guess the little chap has been missing his mum and everything will have been a bit bewildering for him.  If Ozzy is becoming attached to him, along with your own love, tenderness and care I am sure you will hear your first purr soon when he is totally relaxed.  Wont that be wonderful?  :Luv:

you see thats what i'm thinking .....its been quite hard for him to settle in but we are getting there i think! we got him eary because his mummy got killed...very sad was'nt expecting him till 22nd but got him at 5 weeks. Ozzy is loving him more now and they are pretty much inseprable(sp) so all is good there. I did'nt think i would really love them but oh my god i'm so in love with both of them  :Luv2:

On a related note, Blip did not purr for some time when she first came here.  The first time she did purr, I thought she was having an asthma attack.  Now she purrs like a little engine  :Luv:

If Barnaby is only seven weeks old, that is very early to have been separated from his mother (obviously I do not know the circumstances) so maybe it will take a while for him to get into his purry stride.

Smidgen purrs very quietly. I have to really listen for it. Esther is the same. I have had cats though, whose purr could be heard in the next room. It depends on the cat. They do start a lot younger than 7 weeks though, so maybe he just does it very discretely

awww my ickle one does'nt want to  :'( maybe i need to love him even more  ;D he has a thing for my shoes and slippers at the moment.....goes to sleep in my slipper every afternoon at 2pm heehee i will try to find a picture soon to show you

All cats purrs at different levels (volume) ... Zephyr Purrs like a tractor you could practially hear him next door, Foxy purrs at a sensible level whereas Rossi purrs so quietly the only way I know she is doing it is because I can feel her vibrating!

He can if he wants too, little ones purr when they suckle from mum, not sure exactly when it starts but definately while they are ickle  :Luv:

ok now i just know this is going to sound stupid but........can someone tell me how old kittens are when they start purring ?  :-[
because ozzy purr's very loud (14 weeks old) and barnaby does not purr at all (7 weeks old)
