Definitely recommend a cat sitter - I have always used them since i discovered they existed. But make sure you get one from a company - not just someone who advertises in the paper. The company sitters are all police checked and so forth so you know you are safe giving them access to your home. Homesitters' can actually provide someone to live in which is great as the house is clearly occupied when you are away. They also collect your mail, prevent junk mail accumulating, water your plants and so forth. Mine I did not have to feed, some you do. But do phone around all the companies in your area that offer the service. As someone else has suggested, your vet will also be able to recommend someone. I find that the dodgy ones' cards are usually 'out of stock' (a technique I use myself) to avoid offence, or complaints from the proprietors, but remember the vet can not recommend overtly a particular service as it would be highly unprofessional of them.
