thanks everyone - I think I may give the link Gillian posted a try, I currently have a mesh cone but don't trust it!  I think stapling is worth a go

Have you thought about asking a blacksmith or someone who is handy with a welder?!! ;)

What have you made the collar from Dawn? - theres an article with pic here that shows a mesh collar http://www.laramax.co.uk/Treecollars.htm

The only 'ready made' collar I've seen is this one http://www.jacobijayne.co.uk/care--safety/cats/cat-deterrent/ - which looks a bit lethal to me!

anyone know where I can get these - the garden is catproofed but we have one tree, a very nice hawthorne, that will have to come down if I can't find a collar for it, we've made one and so far it is ok but I'd like something a bit more sturdy - any ideas welcome!!
